Do you think any team will ever be able to beat Readings record breaking 106 points in the 2005/2006 season?

Will take some doing, if we win all our remaining games it will give us 108 points.
Leicester looked on track and they now need to win 9 out of 10 to beat it.

Can’t see either of us doing that.

Probably will have to wait till Man city are working their way back up through the leagues after they are demoted due to FFP.

  2. I reckon it will be beaten one day. Eventually, all our current records will be beaten but it may not happen for a very long time

  3. The hardest part for a team beating 106 is the inevitable drop in efforts once promotion is secured that means most title winning teams normally end up dropping points you wouldn’t expect them to drop at the end of the season.
I’m sure the record will fall one day, but it will take a special team to beat it, not your bog standard team at the top of table goes on long unbeaten run through the winter that gets hyped up every year without fail.

Once a team is on pace to do it, they will likely lose some motivation, as we have perhaps seen a bit with Leicester complacency, but it doesn’t seem outrageous that it could happen.

  5. Fulham when they were absolutely destroying people 7-0 should’ve got closer than they did. 16 points off in the end.

  6. Yes, the parachute payments and player sales of established premier league clubs are creating a ridiculous gap in wealth. Someone will come down with a £150m squad and batter this league.

Saying this as an Albion fan who has seriously benefited from this in the past

  7. Not this season. Leeds and Ipswich have no margin for error, and Leicester will need a turn around in form just to hit triple digits.

  8. We were close last year….dropped off three games straight after beating sheff Utd and winning promotion, before we won the league at Blackburn.

Winning the league at Blackburn must have been in the teams view at that point as we drew with reading and Rotherham and lost to QPR.

Five more points from those games would have seen us hit 106 and turn all three into wins would have beat it.

Will probably be like the Liverpool and City in PL 2018/19.
Both teams beating the previous record of 95 but only one can win the title. So maybe all three of Leeds, Leicester and Ipswich will do it

Continuing current upward trajectory, us and QPR will do so next season.

  11. I think we will see it within the next 5 years. Those parachute payments are only goanna further the gap. A part of me really thinks that if Everton do go down this season they could smash Readings record.

Well we’re only 67 points off doing it this season, it’ll be a challenge to get that many points in 10 games but you’ve got to back yourselves

  13. It’s 2.3 points per game. 2017/18 Man City got 2.6 points per game. So yeah it can be done and probably will be at some point. Maybe when City get their FFP punishment they’ll get to have a crack at it.
