I know there will probably be Championship clubs who will side with the EPL on this, but the lack of consultation with the EFL, with clubs and with fans cannot be allowed to stand. These fuckers have unilaterally decided to torpedo the oldest cup competition on earth just so their players are fit enough to milk the cash cow that is the pre-season foreign tour. Fuck them.

Proud of the club to get this out.

The FA have become a joke now, sooner the regulator is in place the better

Actually this screams “get it in while we can” ahead of being blocked by the regulator

Carrick condemning it in his press conference, with the club saying they don’t support it as well

Hopefully the backlash doesn’t stop. It can’t be allowed to just die down

đŸ‘đŸ» well done Plymouth, hope others let themselves be heard too

  4. I think it’s getting to the point where clubs even if they’re ambivalent are going to be pressured to join the clubs that put out statements early.

Not to be all billy big bollocks but I’d love to see the relegated 3 put one out as we’re about as close to the PL as you can get without having had a say. Not sure if we will as it isn’t like any of our owners are British and get up for the cup other than when we find ourselves in the latter rounds and they probably all have dreams of being in Europe anyway

  5. Yep, well said, agree with all of it.

I appreciate replays might not always be convenient (we’ve defo benefited in the past, though i honestly think we might be safe now if we didn’t have that extra 120 mins against leeds), but in our country the game belongs to everyone, not just the ultra-rich.

If the top teams don’t want replays, be good enough to win in 90. And if overseas fans want to see more live football in their countries, they can watch their local teams.

Beautifully written statement that manages to balance finance with romance.

  7. Brilliant statement from Argyle. It’s a damning indictment on the state of the FA pandering to the big clubs with complete disregard to the overwhelming majority of clubs throughout the English football pyramid.

Someone else mentioned above that also speaks volumes is that the same clubs who resent these replays and complain about fixture congestion are happy to go on pre-season tours all over the world.

My final point is that a lot of the current EPL clubs will have benefitted greatly from FA cup replays at some point in their history and there are so many examples of teams now lower in the leagues that are examples of how your fortunes can change and they may once again find themselves in positions where an FA cup replay against a top side can have a massive impact on the club.

I actually don’t care about replays going, I think the financial side is overstated as how often do these big money replays happen? Once or twice a year? A bigger slice of the premier league pie for all EFL clubs seems a better, fairer way to go imo. HOWEVER, if the EFL clubs were not consulted on it at all, then that is a huge huge problem.

I’m sure the MUH TRADITION lads will baulk at the idea, but what if from the 3rd round onwards, if an EFL club gets drawn against a prem club, the EFL club gets to choose the venue. Take the away fixture for the pay day, play at home for a better chance to progress.

What really annoys me about the Prem pushing out replays so they don’t have to play as many games is that the Prem is *already* the smallest league in England. They play eight fewer games than every other club in the EFL, and they can’t possibly fit in one more if an underdog manages to take them to a replay?

  10. Nobody should be siding with the EPL on this one, not even fans of tops 4 clubs like myself.
