Should at least try, worse comes to worst, we can make Arsenal pay more.

Yeah we aren’t getting this deal over the line I don’t think. UCL will give them a huge advantage over us and they offer similar wages to us with the new wage bill the only thing wr may do different is give him a longer contract
It’s a shame our worst two seasons in forever coincided with Arsenal’s best two. Calafiori is quality, would hate to see him end up there but I’m sure he’d rather UCL football and we probably won’t offer a massive wage either
No chance we sign any decently proven player. Will likely end up spending more money on a worse player in the coming months
If he plays Center back I would think he would have a better chance of starting for us than at Arsenal where they have one of the best center back pairing in Europe

At the moment UCL and bigger wages, Arsenal are ahead, but we have good pull since we are Chelsea plus Maresca is Italian as well so he might convince him if we want this guy so much.
Arsenal paying £42m for depth is unlike them. Is timber’s injury that bad?
Would he start for Arsenal? Would have to think he’d be a guaranteed starter for us but I don’t see why they would shoehorn him in with Saliba and Gabriel, unless the intention is for him to play LB
It would be extra funny if we snatched him from Arsenal.
This is one of the biggest downfalls of not having champions league, luckily we can show we are at least knocking on the door but that pull is huge to get top players and until we get it back we will always be behind in the race for top players.
Can’t lie it’s not looking good.
I can imagine the sales pitch:
Hey do you want to come and back up one of the best players in the euro or one of our best young prospects?
I trust our scouting department to have alternatives. I’m not even worried.
