Personally think we are spending a bit too much on this transfer but if Lopetegui really wants him then I’m all for it.

This one seemed (seems) inevitable from day 1 it’s gone through all the hallmarks of a west ham transfer
– initial bid well below what selling team wants
– once selling club names their price we bid still well under it
– we make a “bid” for another player in the same position but plays nothing like the wanted player
– board mouthpieces (claret and spew) say he costs too much deal looks unlikely
– we meet the selling club’s original asking price albeit 3-4 weeks later. This year at least it’s earlier than usual this usually takes place at the end of the window and the player gets no pre season with the manager
