Even if you are fully positive on Southgate it is time to move on. He’s had a long stint and things will only stagnate. FA are idiots.

  2. The only reason for anyone to logically want him to stay is the fear the next person could be worse, and they don’t trust the FA to pick wisely. Fuck, i want him to stay now

  3. Southgate have gotten England closer to a 1st place in a European or world chsmpionship then any other trainer since the 60’s.

Of course he can be replaced, and English national team results will once again go back to normal.

  4. I like Gareth as a man, and am always supportive of him, but it is time to move on now. We need someone to help us play more expansive football.

Yesterday, on dutch tv they talked about Koeman and the fact that only against Romania and a very small part of the game against Turkey, we were able to play as “dominant” as we want.

One of the commentators said Koeman is oké based on result but someone like Slot (new Liverpool) or Bosz (made PSV champion last year with attractive football) would be able to get 20-30% more out of a group.

Southgate is in my opinion the same as Koeman, based purely on result you have to say they did well. Based on being able to make the group play 20/30 better no. If England was not holding back and in other hands, they surely are capable of so much more attractive football.

Always rated sources, up there with Ornstein for English football news

  7. I know this type of style is negative, but the one thing to remember is yeah, Howe/Potter play more expansive, but that is in a league with no heat.

Southgate style (not a fan of it) lets us have a chance no matter what country we play in. The next World Cup is going to be ridiculously hot, and England will not play great being open and exciting. We need to control the ball and not run as much.

  8. He can manage England forever as far as I’m concerned, I’ve never watched so many England matches in finals in all my life.

Sorry but I cannot fathom the calls to get rid?

Saying he’s regressed us is nonsense. He’s won an insane amount of games and got us to the better stages of competitions consistently since his appointment.

“Ooo he doesn’t play good football” – brilliant. Practically every team set up defensively this year bar Spain. We’ll go from Defensive manager, to defensive manager, and people will moan all the same.

A key takeaway is the English will complain no matter what. If we had an ultra attacking manager playing good football, and we lost in the RO16, we’d get complaints for not playing cautiously enough.

He’s obviously had a massively positive impact on the national side. It’s nonsensical to get rid if he wants to stay.

  10. I mean there’s no standout candidate to replace him. Howe is incredibly similar (doesn’t use subs very well, relies on team spirit and morale rather than tactics) and might not want the job anyway. Potter crumbled under the pressure at Chelsea.

Southgate has consistently taken the team to the late stages of tournaments and got us into two finals. The style of play not be all that fun to watch but if it wins games then that’s more important.

I think he will bow out after the final even if he wins. The media has been so hard on him, I don’t think he will want to endure them for the next few years…

    – If England wins : “YES , I ALWAYS SUPPORTED YOU , SOUTH GATE BALL DID IT”

    – If England loses : “I KNEW IT , WE REACH FINALS CUZ OF EASY BRACKET , DODGY REF DECISIONS AND CUZ OF GOLDEN GENERATION. WE PLAY LIKE SHIT AND THATS WHY WE LOST. SOUTH GATE OUT”

While I do agree with the sentiment that this Golden generation and these insane players should play fluid and great football like Spain does , football of today is all about results , and if you win while playing bad , there is not much importance to it. “Results” will always speak louder than “how we play”.
