So why did we extend him when he could've walked for free unless we're trying to get profit which wouldn't make sense since probably no one wants him cause he hasn't played in over a year

Bs “news” imo, club will just wait and see if he can come back. I guess if he can’t, at all, they’ll offer him some sort of staff position. If he gets better and starts playing correctly, maybe they’ll sell him. Can’t see it happening before next season at the very least.

It’s like selling an out of warranty Xbox 360 with RRoD, not gonna happen (at least not in 2024).
He signed a new contract (until June 2026) in December 2023, they will at least give him another chance to recover and play again this season.
Different story if there’s another long-term injury in between
