  1. May sound dramatic, but I agree, it’s a crucial season for him. Just off the Euro disappointment, entering his prime, World Cup in two years, at a big club…

This season and next will probably be career-defining for Maddison, and I hope he likes being the main man at the Sunday roast dinner.

In camparison to Bergvall or Sarr, he’s a liability off the ball and during the press. If he isn’t creating on the ball, he simply has to be dropped.

  3. I know it was only pre season but with the contrasting form between him, Bergvall and Kulusevski I believe he’ll need to get off to a strong start in these first couple of games to keep the starting berth. There’s a lot of games to go round so it is very likely that the two swedes get some time in that number 10 slot which could put some pressure on Madders

Fingers crossed he gets back to his early season form from last year

My armchair supporter read on Maddison is that he is lacking confidence. Not getting picked for Euros stung, a ton, and regardless of what you and I think, he thinks it was unjust due to injury. Add to that Kulu has been getting minutes in his role, alongside a kid who is mates with Kulu breathing down his neck. To compound things he had a poor preseason.

He’s a passionate, kind of shithouse personality and when he is in good spirits that is huge, feels like the flip side of the coin is that he also can spiral. Hope he can pull out of the tailspin…

  5. He has a great opportunity with Solanke in the squad. You look at how Solanke would play last season at Bournemouth and it really suits the way Madders output. Fingers crossed they get clicking quick because this article ain’t wrong. He has to prove his doubters wrong else they are going to get louder and louder.

An in-form Madders is the difference between Spurs winning the league and Spurs winning the treble this season.

Way I see it (outside of his injury) he lost form once he lost a clear option to through ball to. Richy is richy, son slowed down massively and looked exhausted at the end of the season, we began hugging the wings and chucking the ball in the air way more. Having more creative midfielder options, having Solanke – on paper sounds like everything he needs to get some confidence back and continue to top shithousery

The benefit of a deep squad and lots of competitions is if Maddison doesn’t pan out he can still get minutes with the “B” team and work his way back in.

The best thing for him will be getting someone in the squad to genuinely threaten his starting spot

  10. Ange is ruthless and i can see him moving on madders and bissou next summer if he feels they can’t be the leaders that the team needs
