[John Percy] Wolves budget for remainder of transfer window will be around £20m, despite banking £90m+ from Neto & Kilman sales. Centre-back the priority. Budget will increase if fringe players sold but Wolves determined to safeguard financial position

  1. Absolutely wild.

Fine if we consider Guedes, Mosquera, Chiquinho to be effectively new signings but we still need a CB. Period. If fringe signings we make are additive to that 20M then fine, but time to get moving on those sales

  2. Insanity. I’ve liked the signings they’ve made this summer, but how isn’t it crystal clear to ownership that a couple more big signings would push us over the top into European contention? We have a good enough team, but right now I can’t see us as anything more than mid-table. Just reeks of lack of ambition. Fosun has to go.

  3. If this is the mentality then we are at risk of going back down to the championship. The gap is widening even between mid table teams with the investment they are making. Leicester by all means have a mostly premier league quality side . With the investment mid table sides have made, and the quality of some of the newly promoted teams, we could soon see ourselves in the bottom half..

  4. Madness.

To get rid of our captain and our most valuable player and not have replaced them by the start of the season is bad enough, but to squirrel away the vast majority of the fees which we have received for those players and leave us to scrounge around for just about anything is scandalous neglect.

So much for Shi’s promises that tightening our belts last year would let us spend a bit this summer, then.

  5. Have we got to sell 50m of players every season just to keep on top of things?!

This is crazy to me. The accounts can’t be that bad. We’ve got one of the lowest wage bills in the league…we’re in the black on transfers of the last 3 seasons. I really thought this was behind us.

  6. I’ve quite enjoyed the window so far but that was based on the fact we have at least 1 more big signing. Dawson, Toti and Mosquera as centrebacks with only Ait Nouri at LB is a disaster waiting to happen. We absolutely need a centre back

Not a fan of this news and certainly makes you question FOSUNS dedication. However, the Neto money will come in over the course the next four years (I imagine Kilman is similar), and so we probably don’t have it on hand yet. Percy has also said that the budget will increase if we sell guedes, silva, and Podence. If it is the case that that 100% of those funds are directly reinvested in to transfers, then the situation is markedly less grim. It may be the case that FOSUN want to rely on on the outgoings to fuel signings as opposed to direct investments which seems fine so long as we are able to spend around 50 million
