MdL’s camp’s perception was that FCB “were playing a game” during conversations about his prospects & wanted him to go.He was told by Kompany that he wasn’t responsible for the decision & was his “No1 defender”. Perception was that a choice had been made, at board level, to facilitate his departure.

Please stop. Im hurt enough
Yes? It was very obvious from the beginning that it’s him who has to go, because of his high wages and transfer fee value.
Add his injury record, mediocre buildup, mediocre speed (for kompanys high line) and it makes sense
It’s a shame tho, because he is a great character and leader
Possible, but we dont know if this is true.
Fact is, he wouldn’t have been optimal for Kompanys playstyle. Upa and Kim(and Neuer) push extremely far up, and are basically a 3 man midfield in attack. De Ligt was the weakest of our defenders with the ball.
Saying that, I still hate that decision. It was clearly for money reasons mainly, but cmon, isnt a top defender who you can trust 100% and is a leader worth 17 mio for one year? Especially with our injury history and more games then last season, we really could have needed him.
