[Laurie Whitwell] #MUFC should not be losing that game. An inability for players to stay onside or time passes has cost the team. So did loose defence in the box. General play pretty good. There was application to pressing again. Taking off Fernandes failed to work.

  1. Im not sure you can call 0 players at the back post loose defence, more like non-existant

They saved their subs for the last 10 and we couldn’t cope. Ten Hag getting schooled by a dude half his age who has never coached in a top-flight league

    Bruno decision was unfathomable

    Agreed.

We were marginally the better team going into the last 10 minutes. Both managers made subs and they Completely dominated

Once again Ten Hag showing why he isn’t a top top coach.

  4. I don’t even expect us to challenge the title this season, I know we are ways to go for that.

I just want to feel a sense of ‘oh yes we are definitely smashing them today’ when watching the game.

You just never feel that this team can do that.

Just cannot finish chances, amateur defending, questionable in game management. It just tiring to experience that every season.

I am sure we were the better team and most of brighton chances are indirectly contributed by
    Ref decisions.

  6. Probably the best take on the game I’ve seen so far. Subs in the final 10 cost us the game but up until then we were the better side. Onto the next one.

Perfect example was Amad drifting offside at the halfway line without a defender anywhere near him. Just a complete lack of awareness of positioning on the pitch

Who cares that he took Bruno off? He shouldn’t play 90 mins in every game. The real issues are the teams constant failure to score goals since ETH arrived

  9. We were unlucky to not be 2-1 up tbh. Taking off Bruno cost us the game. We didn’t do anything after he was taken off. Overall this is night and day from last year. To anyone expecting us to challenge for title after being dog shit last year is gonna have to wait. Lots of positives, that last goal was just fucking deflating, non-existent defense. Pedro could have chested and taken 4 touches and finished it.

Only at Man Utd (post SAF) excuses get made on behalf of managers that it takes forever to implement your style.

This was 31year old Fabian’s 2nd game in the PL and EtH’s start of 3rd season after spending 500mn on players he wants.

Zero excuses to not win this match. Bad subs, too many offsides, players not taking initiative.

  11. Pressing was good in first half with Mount on the pitch. But how much of that is down to having Mount replace the striker?

2nd half was probably 60/40 in favour of Brighton imo.

We didn’t create much. Yeah sure, if we took every single chance we created we could say we deserved to win but no team takes all their chances.

  12. i can definitely see Laurie cursing at the telly every match like every other man utd fan 😂

  13. Offsides were more unlucky than anything, honestly. The runs were the right call. Can maybe say Nacho shouldn’t have fired right towards Zirkzee but that’s about it. The defense was a far, far bigger issue.

Both goals came off unfathomably bad defending that led to basically gauranteed goals. That’s a problem that we were dealing with last year before we replaced half our defense. We cannot be giving shit away like that.

  14. Sensible take this. To many already acting like the season is over. We were decent for big portions of the game, but concentration lapsed several times and it cost us some terrible goals. Brighton’s goals didn’t come from them outplaying us, they came from us completely switching off.

Taking Fernandes off for McTominay was a mistake, but we can’t play Fernandes 90 mins every game. Should be able to rely on subs to fill in and evidently we can’t.

We’ll bounce back from this one.

Jesus christ, if Zirkzees knee doesn’t touch the ball United are 2-1 up and likely a completly different outcome. We were playing good football.

Either team could have won it and Brighton did in the end. It was a much better performance than previous games against them where they have played us off the fucking park.

I don’t agree with the Bruno sub but the manager can’t be blamed for the defenders falling asleep completly in the last minutes of the game

  16. Agree with Laurie here.
Until the 90th minute it was anyone’s game, we blinked first.

Some reallyyy unlucky positioning took us out.
Mags was a toe poke away in clearing Welbz goal
Zirkzee took 1 step too many.

Brighton kept trying and capitalized on their bare chances.

It is what it is. We go again!

  17. I can excuse the goals, defensive partnerships need time to gel.

What is actually concerning for me is, the players who create stuff can’t press and the players who can press can’t create stuff.

Only Bruno can do both and it’s a tricky one to fix.

  18. ETH needs to start changing teams after wins. There is no way you can leave out Garnacho out of the current starting line-up. Our best striker by a mile.

    >An inability for players to stay onside or time passes

That’s called lack of quality. They are the same players with the same coach for the 3rd year in a trow. If they can’t improve that for so long, they’re just not good enough.

  20. Today was one of the first games where I had a realisation that our players are simply not as good as players in the Rooney, Carrick era. Don’t know why it took me this long to figure out.

There were a few moments – Amad’s poor pass, Maguire’s lack of a forward pass, Rashford’s bambi touch and dribbling. So many’s inability to watch the line. Just… lesser players. Sad.

  21. United players today cost the match, Amad had two huge chances and made two shit decisions. Header the ball back the way it came, And the pass on the 3 vs 2 counter was absolutely criminal.

Pressure on the ball was shit and the defence kept dropping off. United would counter and have a 1 on 1 , turn back wards and lose the ball on top of endless offsides..

You then had there offside line where a player would make a good run but we wouldn’t play the ball, But then we’d play it when nobody’s making a run ? Are players not capable of playing a diagonal pass ? Because the amount of times the left or right winger could play a diagonal is outrageous.

  22. It’s so painful to watch this team. We barely won the game last week due to lack of finishing and this week the same amongst other errors and lapses.

One stark contrast for me was how much better Brighton were when their actual first team players came on. Baleba, Adingra, and Enciso are just so much better technically and physically than our players. Joao Pedro, too. We’ve spent a crazy amount of money building a very poor, misshapen squad with zero goals in it.
