We bought Gus Hamer last year for 15 million from Coventry and he has a sell on clause. With that in mind, in what world would we sell one of our best players for 13 mil to a rival? If it was just to ‘unsettle’ Hamer… make the bid an actual serious bid. If I were Hamer I’d be insulted by such a low offer.

  1. Also, Blades, for the first time in its existence, actually has a lot of money in the bank so we don’t need to sell anyone. Meanwhile Leeds just made something like 160mil in sale revenue. Come in for an offer of 25-30 mil then you can have him. We all know you got the money for it.

  2. Not a clue what they’re playing at, it’s probably in the same vein as Rowe where we’ve gone in about half of what you would expect to get talks actually started.

As much as I would love Hamer, think he’s probably the best player in the league and he would be a perfect fit in our team from position where we really need to add that sort of quality and output, there’s absolutely no way they were serious with this bid.

I’m not sure whether it’s a publicity stunt and they’re going to drop the we tried to get XYZ player, when then seemingly we look abroad to actually make sign-ins all those to be honest it’s mostly been rumours of players from across Europe with so far very little materializing..

Please can you sell Hamer but to like a Premier League club? Ideally before Sunday

  4. Honestly, neither do we.

He’s worth double that, such a stupid bid. Journalists on our side saying we’re not going back with another bid.

What a pointless waste of time. Did the same thing with Rowe, wanted him for half his value then thought ‘nah’.

Seems like they just want it to look like they tried to sign players.

  5. Bad info about the financial position of the club I suspect. They probably thought you desperately need the money or that Hamer would force the move.

Why would Hamer be insulted lmao

If they’ve made an actual offer he’s probably said he’s be interested in moving.

  7. I recon we were just testing the water a little bit. I don’t think it was ever going to be a serious bid but it shows we still have money to spend which is good. I do still hope Hamer leaves before the end of the window naturally but what a player to have in championship.

I’m actually perfectly fine with us not overpaying as we have so often in the past. The wider issue is that we don’t seem to be doing any scouting for potential either, it’s just all bids for players in England or players that have recently been in England.

  9. Given that Leeds have sold off all but the entirety of one of the championships best ever front lines I feel like they’re barely more likely to get promoted this season than we are. Come home Gus 😭😭😭.

  10. Watching Wilder’s reaction to the Bogle transfer, and getting the green light from Hamer’s agent, was probably enough to stir the pot with a low starting offer.

  11. When the 49ers came on there was a lot of talk about how they were very skilled at negotiations and contract discussions, I don’t know how they do it in the USA but looking at their approaches for all players this window is seems to be all about unsettling and disrupting. Low balling initial offers then stepping back and seeing how the dust settles (which to my mind does sound very American)

I think every player we have enquired about or put an offer in had taken this process…. Bogle, Lublic, Rowe, even currently with Solomon there’s evidently something amiss…. Frankly they do not instil in me any confidence at all

  12. You can debate this till the cows come home, but anybody who’s been taking notice knows the prince doesn’t let other clubs rip us off like they used to…
