For me its gotta be Tonev. Everytime he took it shot it almost left the stadium.

Agree re: Mellberg (referring to your comment, not this category), he definitely could’ve been most underrated.
Him and God are the CB pair in my best Villa XI of my lifetime.

For me itâs dr Tony xia. The man nearly got the club taken into administration. You can say Gerrard all you want but thatâs a regency bias because he never nearly took the club out of existence

He averaged more than 1 goal conceded per game.
Or Balaban.

Without a doubt it is Yacouba Sylla.
I’ve seen more than my fair share of shit Villa midfielders, but this guy couldn’t tackle, couldn’t run, couldn’t even pass. It was like he was carrying shovels for legs. How he made a career out of football is beyond me.
Only one fuckwit in the entire world would think to sign AND play him – Paul “I cannae fault tha lads” Lambert

Remi Garde – Just a terrible, terrible manager in a terrible regime.
Another cancer to the club was Tom Fox. The bloke had no clue at all how to run the club.
Dr Toni Xia was terrible, but did have good intentions. It’s crazy to believe it wasnt that long ago all this was happening at our beloved club.

Worst is a hard one. I guess you’ve got to pick players who’ve at least played a bit, haven’t you? I don’t like kicking players who have tried hard for the club, but Jordan Bowery was quite a long way off Premier League standard.
Another was Bosko Balaban – I guess we’ll never know if he was any good or not because he barely played, but transfer fee to actual result out of him he was much, much worse than Bowery. At least Jordan Bowery was a bit of a cheap punt that didn’t work out. Balaban was expensive (for the time) and shit.
I’m going Bosko Balaban.

Ross McCormack for me, thereâs probably been worse, but no one has been as bad a signing in my lifetime. For the money we spent at the time, that man was shambolic, easily one of the worst footballers Iâve ever seen grace our beautiful badge.

Got to be Balaban purely because of the absurdity of that transfer and fee.
Would also give a nod to Tonev, Habib Beye, Bowery, Helenius and even Lescott too.

**Bosko Balaban**. Cost a **lot** of money relative to the market (ÂŁ6m, ÂŁ20k a week) and we needed to appeal a decision to deny him a work permit. Failed to establish himself under *three* different managers (Gregory, Taylor, OâLeary) and went on to make about ten appearances for us in all competitions, never completing the full 90, either coming off the bench in the 80th minute or getting hooked at half time in the cup if he made a *very* rare start. No goals. Left for free when we tore up his contract. Last seen in prison in Croatia for failing to pay child maintenance.

I think when looking at what we thought we were getting and then what we got it has to be either Micah Richards or Jean Makoun. In my lifetime at least

Sigh, it’s **Steve Sidwell**. I guess everyone saw this coming with my last post since they, unlike me, looked slightly further down his FBRef page to see that while he did have 53 total goals for his career, only three of them came while wearing the claret and blue which is only one less than the number of own goals that Richard Dunne had playing for us. Ciaran Clark scored over twice as many goals for us as Sidwell. I’m embarrassed by this oversight and I can almost certainly promise it won’t happen again.
Oh and the heads up play I keep mentioning where he created a goal for us while not even being in the match, turns out it happened against Hull city in a match where we won three nothing so it wasn’t even that important. Boy do I have egg on my face.
