[Laurie Whitwell] #MUFC held board-level meeting in Barcelona during America’s Cup, inc Ratcliffe, Glazers + football exec. INEOS Britannia, Ainslie’s sailing team, came through tricky start to finish first stage strong. Some parallels for football side?

    **Some bits via Aggregators:**

The two Glazers, Jim Ratcliffe, Sir Dave Brailsford, Jean-Claude Blanc, Omar Berrada, Dan Ashworth and Jason Wilcox gathered for a planned reunion at the recent Louis Vuitton America’s Cup in Barcelona. [@lauriewhitwell

After looking at potential replacements for Erik ten Hag before and after the FA Cup final, only to conclude that he was still the best man for the job, the board wants to continue to back the manager. The recruitment was done under his influence and the three new coaches were chosen by him. [lauriewhitwell]

**There are concerns about the midfield and questions have been raised internally as to whether this is a problem with the players or with the instructions given to them given that similar issues arose last season. Some people within the club believe a solution should be sought on the training ground.** [@lauriewhitwell]

Conviction internally at Utd that **compensation paid to Newcastle** (For Ashworth)**, placed at about £2.5million to £3m by people briefed on the matter, is money well spent. He has brought a sense of stability and professionalism.**

  2. Don’t give people ideas, Laurie.

I’m going to spend the next three months reading comments like “Yeah, but INEOS Britannia started slowly and still came through…”

Anyone who thinks it’s the players is just biased. It’s clear as day the tactics are ass.

If we had FDJ in place of Casemiro, we would improve, but we still wouldn’t be dominating most games.

Ugarte might improve us, but it won’t be a drastic change.

Even Martinez is getting hung out to dry with these tactics. He’s getting pulled out into 1v1s with space behind him and his lack of pace is being punished.

The proof is in that a few times we have gone through a bad spell, ETH tightens it up and becomes more pragmatic and we look steadier, such as after the opening 2 games of 2022 and towards the end of last season. And then as soon as he tries to play the tactics he truly wants, the same issues appear.

Concerns in the midfield ? Concerns same issues from last season? Hmmm Might want to start considering that a certain undroppable player might actually be a kink in the system and at least TRY and fix it before ETH loses his job.
