  1. Typical English outdated mindset.

How many attempts were taken before one was successful?😂

There is a reason Spain, Barcelona, Bayern and Man City, teams that love to walk the ball into the goal have dominated the world.

While England was struggling in international games, keep trying their long shots from 30 yards out.

  2. It's just a metric to show the quality of chances created. Not that deep, as with all statistics it should be taken with nuance and given context.

  3. Xg should take into context who is taking the shot, for example Cr7 or haaland going through 1v1 is basically expected for a goal as much as antony or brennan johnson in a 1v1 😂

  4. Exactly why xG stat belongs in the briefing rooms and not a pundit talking point. If fans love data, maybe enjoyable, but actual goals will always top xG which is also subjective. Attempts on and off target is a more useful stat for fans

  5. Jamie Redknapp is a diversity hire. They need to keep at least 1 Redknapp active in English football. He is not that bright, unfortunately. The low xG indicates how difficult those shots were, and how well Scharr and Barnes did to score them. 9/10 shots from that position end up in the stand.

  6. I have never understood the point of XG. It may show opportunities, but really does not mean anything unless the ball ends up in the back of the net. Football managers and coaches should disregard it and use their game observation to decide how their team plays.

  7. Same backwards take from people who dont understand the stat. It is not an end all and be all, it is only a metric that quantifies the quality of a chance pre shot and should exist with the nuance and context that it is in.

  8. It's just supposed to be an improvement on shots, which also takes into account where the shot was taken from. 20 shots from 40 yards is worse than 3 shots from 6 yards. But the stats for such a game stats would show 20 shots for team A and 3 shots for team B, and some people would conclude that team A was really unlucky and dominated the game.

  9. why is he so triggered with xG ? it's literally based on data and statistic to help your team improved, when you've got way less goal than your xG, that means your team failed to execute chances after chances, so next time you hit the training ground you know what your team should be training for, simple as that, LOL

  10. xG is used to show trends and what to EXPECT, hence the name. You can and should use it to show outliers, those who are under and over performing to pick out players / tactics etc exactly like Jamie is pointing out… he needs to watch Money Ball.
