  1. * Colwill was responsible for multiple key interventions at the weekend, showing a combination of brilliant positioning and timing to help the Blues get their **first away clean sheet since October 2 2023.**
    * There is still plenty of room for improvement defensively for Chelsea, but it is noticeable how Colwill is growing in stature with each match he plays in his preferred position at left centre-back. Under head coach Mauricio Pochettino last season, the 21-year-old was often played at left-back, with Axel Disasi or Benoit Badiashile preferred next to veteran Thiago Silva instead. Colwill did his best for the team but never looked entirely comfortable in this role.

    * **Chelsea ignored strong interest from Bayern Munich in the summer**, saying he was not for sale. He still has a minimum of five years left on the long-term contract Chelsea agreed with him in August 2023 too

    * **Colwill has been earmarked as a potential future captain**. Maresca said: “I am thinking to nominate one or two more captains. Some of them need to take one step forward and take more responsibility. For instance, one of the guys would be Levi. He is a young player, fantastic profile, I love Levi. But I think in terms of personality, if he is able to take one step forward in these types of things, then he can become a more complete player.”

    * Colwill has completed 277 passes out of 299, a **passing accuracy of 92.6 per cent, the highest among the 7 players who have started every league game**. These are not simply passes around the back, but also a large number of mid to long range passes, with Colwill registering by far the greatest total passing distance at 5350 yds.

    * Colwill has completed 170 out of 174 passes at a medium range, and 21 out of 29 at long range. One example was an excellent ball from halfway to Joao Felix in the Bournemouth penalty area at the weekend. A further sign of his confidence came in the same fixture when he strode out from the back and ended up putting a perfect through ball for Nicolas Jackson to register a shot on goal.

    * Chelsea’s starting XI at Bournemouth cost over £450million in transfer fees. Colwill was the only one who did not cost the club a penny. **It was a reminder that you do not have to pay a fortune to have a very valuable asset in your line-up.**

  2. i’m so glad Maresca started to use him on his natural position. I understand when Disasi has to play right back when RJ and Malo are injured, but what’s the point was to play Levi as a LB when Poch had Maatsen – this is clearly out of my understanding. But i’m glad that Colwill and Fofana started to play together week in week out.

  3. This is surprising to no one who has actually watched him play. More than 2 years ago I said on here that he was already good enough to start for every team in Spain bar Madrid and I got clowned for it. He’s the real deal.

  4. Not just Colwill but the more the first choice backline play together the better they perform like a cohesive unit. All about chemistry and understanding of the team mates around them.

  5. I’m not really surprised with his performances, the whole LB experiment with Poch was slowing him down, he’s fast and can recover well but LB is not really his position, good on Maresca for sticking him back in his preferred position and letting him and Fofana build more chemistry together

  6. He just needed a little time and a run of games. I remember seeing a good amount of people wanting him gone for the Arsenal’s Italian fan cam boy 🤦🏻‍♂️
