    ON THIS DAY 2010:

Newly promoted Newcastle travelled to Goodison Park after a shock home defeat to Blackpool threatened to unsettle their good form early in the season.

Despite an first half injury to goalkeeper Steve Harper (replaced by Krul), Newcastle looked the strongest of the two teams early on.

The origin of Newcastle’s flair was down to the first start for Hatem Ben Arfa.

The on loan Frenchman bewildered the Everton side with his mazy dribbles, quick turns, and blistering pace.

His brilliant performance peaked just before half time. After being given too much time on the edge of the area, he took a touch opened his body up, and smashed an absolute thunder-bastard across Tim Howard to take the lead.

Despite a few scares late on, Newcastle held on to win.

There was another great full debut, as new arrival Ivorian enforcer Check Tioté completed all of his 64 passes in a complete midfield performance.

Manager Chris Hughton looked to have made some excellent additions to the squad since returning them to the Premier League.
