Palhinha is great at disrupting opponents play, but not as good as creating something. As Bayern is a very dominant side in most matches, it seems like he prefers more active players. Palhinha might see more playing time in the CL though, since there are tougher opponents, which ask for a more defensive approach

I agree it’s very weird they spent so much on him only for him to sit on the bench. Doesn’t make a lot of sense.

I could imagine that they bought Palinha for matches against teams that want to have a lot of possession themselves. Palinha is there to disrupt their plan. So He will likely play in CL and Bundesliga matches against BVB, Leverkusen, Stuttgart and so on.
I think Kompany expects a lot of ball possession and dominance for Bayern today.
