Chances against Crystal Palace

  1. very clear pattern of play around 38 minute mark.

Cbs split with Onana moving into a back 3 with them, Maz plays high and wide into the midfield while Eriksen does the same on the other side: Dalot Mainoo play as a pivot with Bruno ahead of them sort of roaming. Zirkzee plays as a false nine while the wingers hold width but look to cut in.

3-5-3 in buildup with the GK in the backline. Very big emphasis on the wide midfield players to be technical because they play a hard pass into the ST’s feet. Hence Eriksen and Maz play wide. Eriksen or Maz looks to bounce the ball off Zirkzee back to a midfielder who either drives forward (Mainoo) or looks to thread a pass (Bruno)

Mount/Mainoo/Bruno is probably the ideal midfield for matches like palace. I don’t think we’d lose defensive stability with Mount over Eriksen. in fact Mount’s pressing is a big asset, so he would just need to be able to pick out passes like Eriksen. Ugarte comes in when we expect to have less possession.

we are creating for fun now. And there’s a clear pattern throughout the first 70 mins. This is way better than I’ve seen across all of ETH’s seasons. We just need to put some away man. I don’t see how anyone can watch this video and say we aren’t playing very well and better than before

I didn’t watch the game but reading some of the comments here I thought Bruno was diabolical and should be rested, but almost every chance goes through him, so what are they on about?

  3. Eriksen’s so important in build up. Was always finding space and playing the right pass.

Struggled massively in midfield when he came off.

It’s a shame we couldn’t score but more aggressive then we have been. If you play for United, you cannot worry and have to say we are better and 9/10 we win the game. But despite an uneven start to the season we’ve seen better things defensively and that can be built on. We do need to reward ourselves though. Take more care with our finishes.
