Aston Villa Team News

  • Tyrone Mings and Boubacar Kamara have both returned to training with their team-mates having recovered from long-term knee injuries. Emery has revealed they are set to feature for Villa’s Under-21s next week, before hopefully being available for first-team selection following the October international period.

  • The Villans will travel to Suffolk without captain John McGinn as he recovers from the hamstring injury which forced him off in last weekend’s 3-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

  • Lucas Digne, who was forced off at half-time last weekend, has been pictured in training this week, indicating he may be in contention.

Ipswich Town Team News

  • Kalvin Phillips should be available for Ipswich after missing their last match with a minor thigh injury, though manager Kieran McKenna has indicated he may not be able to play 90 minutes.

  • Nathan Broadhead and Harry Clarke are both in contention, with back-up goalkeeper Cieran Slicker the only player ruled out.

  1. Oh boy. Excited for this one. Off the back of a tricky visit to Wycombe and ahead of a hell of a fixture against Bayern, this will be a perfect chance to show how our Prem form can hold up amid competing on all fronts.

Honestly, I think this will be tough in places. Ipswich have landed punches on some very good teams already this season, and limited others to very little. I can see some grumpy messages hitting the match thread at points because of them doing a very good job of stifling our gameplan and that getting misread as Villa playing poorly. I hope we can grab an early goal, because in the same way that I think we would have steamrolled Wycombe if Durán buried that early chance, I think if we take control within the first 15-20 this time out, then we can power on to a very good result.

I’ll go for my usual 4-0, goals from Watkins, Bailey, Durán and a first for Maatsen, but it wouldn’t shock me if Ipswich make it considerably harder for us than that. Losing McGinn is a blow too but yeah, we have a level of quality that should allow us to take it whatever happens, especially with the likes of Ollie, Pau and Rogers being rested during the week.

Oh, and obviously hope Philogene is back asap. Would be lovely to get a bit more clarity on that soon, if not his name on the actual teamsheets.
