Letter of the law

  1. If this was an Trossard he’d have been banned for 4 games and Everton would have been docked 5 points

  2. I hope the club is compiling a master cut of all these, sending it to PGMOL, care of Howard Webb, and requesting clarification.

  3. EDIT: My bad, my bad. Just looked at the name, with very tired eyes, which looked long enough to be Ndidi and didn’t even think to look at the number, lol. Justin did have a nice assist to the Havertz goal though, on top of his beautiful volley.

Ndidi’s *second* delaying of the game that he got away with it. Guess we’ll chalk up the own goal as karmic justice, then.

  4. To be fair Sam Barrott was ridiculously bad for both sides today. I’ve been keeping track of every Premier League refereeing decision this season and this is by far the most inconsistent and unexplainable display I’ve seen so far for multiple reasons. First and foremost the debatable decisions:

    * Skipp foul on Martinelli + kicks the ball away = nothing

    * Saliba maybe fouls Vardy in lead up to Martinelli goal = no foul given when it maybe could’ve been… 50/50 decision tbf (VAR was right not to intervene though)

    * Ndidi booked for foul on Calafiori (harsh) but then reprieved twice of a sending off for delaying the restart (neither incidents were really any worse than Trossard’s last week)

    * Calafiori booked for foul on Buonanotte (personally thought it was a bit harsh, but I understand it)

    * Justin blatantly delays the restart by hugged our player for no reason = nothing

    * Skipp commits the umpteenth foul of the match, possibly his most blatant = referee plays “advantage” when it [wasn’t on](https://imgur.com/8SRwd8b), then doesn’t even bring back the play when he [definitely should](https://imgur.com/stnIORT) (not a yellow at that point because he’s played advantage, but we should at least have the free kick).

    * Linesman gives unexplainable offside decision for Havertz’s 4-2 which is so obviously played off Justin, not Sterling. Thankfully VAR intervenes.

Second, even not considering the questionable decisions, the sudden switch in attitude at half time was bizarre. I felt like, outside of the Ndidi booking, the ref was quite lenient in the 1st half imo. In the 2nd half he just went ballistic and started whistling for every little bit of contact and booked 3 players in 4 minutes. Then when Leicester got the equaliser he went back to being lenient again. This is also what I mean by consistency, not just in terms of giving the right decisions game-by-game etc but also keeping to the precedent you’ve set 10 minutes prior. He’s inexperienced and maybe it’s just part of the learning process, but this happens too many bloody times in the PL not just with us.

  5. I know this will get downvoted but hounding the ref asking for a card is also meant to be a bookable offence by the letter of the law and Arteta does that here.

Would add that City and other teams do it a lot and it goes unpunished so merely making the point that the restart rule isn’t the only one inconsistently enforced.

Absolutely should be a booking for the Leicester player though and completely understand why Arteta would be particularly sensitive to this rule!

  6. This is fucking mental. There’s just zero attempt to hide it at this point eh? What a broken fucking system the English have allowed to take root.

  7. MidnightSnackyZnack on

You can’t compare the situations because its well I don’t know. It’s not an arsenal player doing it.

  8. Trying to be subjective here. Justin (that guy was involved in everything yesterday haha) is basically competing for the ball. He is between Arteta and Martinelli he turns around and Martinelli is right there. I think he’s sleeping a bit, sees Arteta throw it to Martinelli and thinks ‘O fuck’ and turns around. You could argue he gives him a little shove.

I WOULD be fine with no action being taken here but I’m still so bitter about Rice and Trossard. If this was a second yellow for us. We’d be hearing ‘Listen Arsenal need to learn and stop with the dark arts stuff, it’s finally being clamped down on. He impended the throw taker, it’s a clear yellow.’ Sprouted by all the same talking head cunts who are happy to collect their pay cheque and not rock the boat.

Even here you see the two sides of this being explained away. You could easily accept my first paragraph and also the second. The problem is the first paragraph applies to everyone else, second paragraph is just for us.
