Harry Kane was accused of going missing in another big game by German tabloid *Bild* following [Bayern Munich’s Champions League defeat at Aston Villa](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2024/10/02/aston-villa-vs-bayern-munich-live-score-champions-league/).

The German tabloid gave [Kane](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/harry-kane/) its second-lowest possible mark for his performance at Villa Park, branding him “invisible” [days after attacking his performance in Bayern’s 1-1 draw](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2024/10/01/bild-accuses-harry-kane-of-going-missing-in-big-games/) against Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen.

“Had ankle problems after the Leverkusen clash, but was fit in time,” the publication wrote of Kane. “The England star was hardly seen and missed a great header chance to equalise shortly before the end.”

Kane was given a rating of five in a system where one is the best rating and six the worst.

“When he returned home, the captain of the English national team remained invisible,” *Bild* added. “Just as he did against Leverkusen.

“[He] only managed his only shot on goal seconds before the final whistle.”

Following Saturday’s game against Leverkusen, *Bild* questioned his failure to find the net in a “big game” following 10 goals in seven appearances this season, including a hat-trick against rock-bottom Holstein Kiel.

In an article headlined, “The BITTER Kane truth”, sports editor Walter Straten wrote: “Lots of effort, too little success. Harry Kane is hanging around alone up front. What good are three goals against Kiel if he doesn’t even get a shot on goal in a big game like yesterday?

“Fairness dictates that we shouldn’t unleash the Kane-can’t-win-a-title curse now. Especially since he had to leave injured.”

  2. I had such an awful feeling when he was lining up that free kick at the end. We’d done brilliantly to not give them any in that kind of position all game and absolutely feared the worst when they finally got one at the death. Never been more relieved to see him fuck it up!

  3. What a day when a journo describes playing at Villa Park as “a big game” for bayern munich, warms my heart.

No way was he their worse player! A less bent ref and that defender would have been sent off twice in the first half alone. Their midfield (full of all those flair players) generated very little all night. Their keep went walk about to allow Duran to score. Gnabry missed a one on one from about eight yards.

  5. He was invisible to Gnabry that’s for sure, seems harsh, great header at the end matched by a great save.

While Kane’s general play was ghost like he still had Bayern’s best 2 chances although one was offside the header late on needed a massive save from Emi, Gnabry also didn’t square it to him for an open net so don’t know why he’s bearing the brunt of the criticism.

He wasn’t actually invisible, he just had a Brazilian brick shed built around him for 90 minutes.

  8. Of course, another way to put it would be that our back 4 & team as a whole just played great & nullified any threat Bayern posed. UTV, SOTC

  9. I’d go as far as this. They had 7/10 players apart from Musiala who was a 9/10.

We had all 9/10 players apart from Bailey who was 6/10 and clearly not fit so no shame there.

Us at 9/10 were slightly better than them at 7/10.

Bayern will no doubt massacre another team soon enough but Bild are having a laugh suggesting that it was down to one or two players.

He wasn’t invisible, he was well marshalled, but he could have had 2 goals in all honesty.

First, Gnabry should have squared it to him on a plate in the first half.

Second, Dibu pulled off a worldie at the death to deny his really good header.

  11. That’s Kane’s game, not sure why people want him involved in everything. He very nearly did his job exactly as they’d have wanted – two, point blank headers. We’ve seen enough of him over the years to know he more often than not isn’t offside for the first, and the second one at the death flies in. Particularly as he always seems to score against us…

Our offside trap worked, then he came up against Emi….but they’re very fine margins. Written in the stars that they went our way

I’d be more angry at Gnarby not squaring it if i was them UTV

People giving way too much stick to Bayern tbh. They played well and had numerous clear cut chances, we just defended better and took our chance when it came. When your keeper is given MotM by the club you can hardly say the other team played poorly.

Even the Germans are fickle it would seem, if Emi hadn’t saved his effort at the end and it went in then he’d be the saviour no doubt
