The club, which is from the city of Araraquara in São Paulo State and whose name means “railway workers”, promoted to Série C last year after finishing as Série D runners-up, losing in the finals to Ferroviário (from Fortaleza in Ceará State) in an interesting matchup of railwaymen clubs. Entering the new season at a higher level as a newly promoted club, they managed to put up a strong performance, finishing in the 3rd place out of 20 clubs in the regular season and advancing to the play-off stage. Put in an extremely competitive and hotly contested group with Athletic, Ypiranga and Londrina, they would not win promotion until in the very last round, when they managed to score an emphatic 4-2 victory against Ypiranga to decisively secure the back-to-back promotion!

Fun fact: (one of?) the club’s supporter group is called “Afeganistão” (“Afghanistan”, a play on “AFE” which is the initials of the club’s full name), which is pretty funny

(Sorry for posting in English, I’m not Brazilian)
