Van Dijk should have won that year. Perhaps the most dominant season ever had by a defender. Even now he is one of the best CBs in the world. But that year, his peak was just incredible to watch. As a biased fan, I don’t know any other defender who was as good as him in about every area.

Honestly I don’t know what else a defender has to do to win the balon d’or now if that season wasn’t enough. He was so incredibly dominant, I doubt we will see that again.
