“Being a football coach is a real privilege. Someone could say that sometimes it can become a pretty uncomfortable role, but expectations, pressure and criticism are part of the job.
Being @afcajax coach is even more a very unique experience, for many different professional and personal reasons.
This journey in Amsterdam reminded me that in modern football we are all connected: shareholders, boards, directors, coaches, players, staff, partners, fans and media.
That’s why I think it’s important to listen to our fans’ thoughts and feelings: on an emotional level, they are part of this legendary club and pass down Ajax historical legacy from generation to generation.
In the beginning, hiring a foreign coach at Ajax for the first time since 1998 has been perceived like a sort of revolution.
But since day one, our only focus was to start a gradual process of rebuilding and development, in full respect of Ajax DNA and heritage. That’s exactly our mission through our daily work – on and off the pitch – and Ajax fans understood that almost immediately.
As a team and a coaching staff, the support we can feel from Ajax fans is amazing.
We never play alone, they are part of our squad.
They understand the struggle and the difficulties.
They share our fighting spirit and will to never give up.
They can feel our vision, ideas and progress.
They support the team no matter what.
So this message is for you, #Ajax fans: thank you for your understanding, your patience and your support.
