Ibrahima Konaté on France-Israel game: “We won’t say it’s a normal game In fact it is, we’re going to be playing football. But we’re not insensitive to what’s going on in the world. What we see on social networks is abominable. I don’t even have the words to describe the horror we are seeing”

  1. Probably the best thing he can say in the circumstances. Didn’t shy away from it or pretend they’re just focused on the game, and kept things matter of fact.

  2. I was surprised to see the r/soccer thread up for 2 hours (and locked) and not seeing this here.

IMO this is as close to a good take as we will see from someone who has to represent their nation and wants to continue to do so.

Very well spoken. Quite surprised how deep his voice in his native language lol! Love this dude so much!

Not a Liverpool fan but got huge respect for the bravery to come out with this statement standing up for a good cause with the potential risks it could bring to himself even, what a player what a bloke 🤝. This is so much bigger than football, free Palestine always

    >”It hurts me when civilians are killed en masse”

That’s pretty antisemitic of you, Ibou. I can’t believe you’d say that just days after the anniversary of the only causalities of this war.

Edit: Turns out r/soccer can interpret sarcasm but r/LiverpoolFC can’t. Go figure.

  6. I love Ibou man. It would be so easy to duck this question and given how robotic / media trained footballers are these days it’s refreshing to see a guy say what he feels and show some empathy to an abominable situation.

This isn’t the first time Konate has said something thought-provoking and profound. He’s only 25 and seems to be wise beyond his years.

Yea let’s keep forgetting that hamas started this war on October 7th with one of the biggest terrorist attacks of all time and Hezobollah attacked immedietely afterwards the next day.

Countless offers for hamas to release the hostages and for hezbollah to stop attacking the north. All they have to do is stop attacking us and it can end whenever they want.

Massive Liverpool fan. Big fan of Ibou. But in the end of the day he just watches cartoons and is an athlete, not a voice on this topic.

Downvote the fuck out of this comment but try your best to provide a valid argument at least

  9. Big up Ibou. Hope they batter israel. And for some of the people out there doesn’t mean that if we hate israel we automatically hamas supporters. Screw them both.
