>A law student who described Arsenal and England winger Bukayo Saka as a “monkey” and a “f—— black piece of s—-” has avoided jail after claiming he was not intending to be racist.
>Suhel Ali, a 20-year-old Arsenal fan, responded to the club’s defeat by Nottingham Forest in May last year by posting an audio message on social media, in which he also called Saka the N-word.
>The City University student, who is of Nigerian heritage like Saka, admitted sending an offensive message by public communication network. He received a 12-month conditional discharge with £111 costs.

I’m glad the court is clearly taking this seriously.

This is sensible.
The kid is a fucking idiot and should and has been punished but saying shit like that on the internet is not something people should be put in jail for. Certainly not for a first offense anyway.
His name is in the media and that will stick with him for life not to mention the shame and the embarrassment of this whole episode.

Did he assault saka or send death threats towards him? Fines are aye okay, along with public humiliation, and being banned from whatever platform he did such things on, but Jail time for the stuff you say online is mad, a lot of people would be jailed for the most ridiculous of things, like that woman who was jailed for posting her deceased friend’s favourite rap song, that contained the N-word…It just seems like an impediment on one’s freedom of speech/expression.
Racism should be treated with education/enlightenment, not Jail tme, just my opinion though.
