    ON THIS DAY 1996:

    United returned to the top of the table thanks to victory over Jim Smith’s side, veteran defender Paul McGrath toiling to try and contain Alan Shearer – and almost succeeding.

    This was a winning finale to 98 years of facing the Rams at the Baseball ground. By the following season Derby had relocated to a new stadium at Pride Park.(nufc.com)

  2. I think this was the game where Paul McGrath contained Shearer in the entire game…..and right at the end he slipped up once..and that was enough for Shearer to capitalise on.
    As McGrath said afterwards “any other player I would have been fine…but you cannot even give Shearer one chance as he will score it, he’s that deadly”.

  3. Controversial opinion time:

    I think this away kit is nicer than the navy and burgundy strip they’ve remade/brought back about 10 times.
