Anfield Presents Amazon Dome may be closer than we think – and fans will be livid: Execs at Fenway Sports Group, which owns Liverpool, have indicated that they “would consider” selling the naming rights to the redeveloped Anfield Road stand, along with smaller discrete areas within the stadium.

  1. I mean if it pays well enough. Sure. Everyone will still call it the annie road stand for a long time anyway… Especially if the name is terrible.

  2. Personally I couldn’t give a shit if they rename the Anfield Road end, as most are still going to call it just that anyway.

They’d only way get massive pushback should they try renaming Anfield itself, or The Kop & King Kenny stands, but they know they would and aren’t stupid enough to do so.

So long as the stadium is still called Anfield, I couldn’t give a flying fuck what stands or “smaller discrete areas” are called

  4. I’m sure I’ll get downvoted into oblivion but I don’t think this is terrible. It’s not the Kop, references Anfield as it’s the Anfield Road Stand and realistically some of these commercial ventures have to get taken onboard. At least it’s not the entire stadium like Emirates. People cry that we don’t sign massive names players when we sensibly live within our means but we can’t have it some give without take. The Amazon lounge, etc. will be mostly just observed by corporates anyway.

    Who’s surprised really

Wasn’t that long ago Tom Werner said he was determined to see Premier League games played in America

That FSG might look to sell naming rights for a redeveloped Anfield Road end (but that Anfield itself would be off limits) was brought up before they did the work and nobody seemed to give a shit at that point (as long as they stuck to the bit where Anfield itself was off limits) but hey I guess if people are looking for an excuse to get annoyed…

  7. Would fans be livid? Easy money and no-one will call it whatever the sponsor is, it will always be the Annie road…..win win IMO

  8. When the stand was devolpement didn’t they openly come out and say they wanted it sponsored? Unsure why people’s heads fell off its been on the cards for years.

If they did something like “Paddy Power Field” or some other corporate nonsense I’d be furious

Wouldn’t be livid but wouldn’t exactly be happy about it. Bit embarrassing. Proper small club behaviour. Could you imagine United ever doing it?

  11. I think fans are more surprised it hasn’t happened sooner.

The reality is, it hasn’t happened because no one is going to stop calling it Anfield. A sponsorship is worth it when you actually get traction with the name. If everyone calls it Anfield instead of Amazon Stadium, what’s the point of spending 30m/yr?

  12. Probably be unpopular and I understand if people disagree but I could not care less if it means more money for the club.

Even with a big money sponsorship, it’ll always be anfield to the fans.

    Absolute bullshit to be honest.

Even if it is only Anfield Road that is still a massive part of history.

Tottenham haven’t managed to sell their stadium naming rights. City get £21m for theirs.

So what we’d maybe get £5m a year for a single stand? Seeing as it has nowhere near the commercial visibility as stadium names.

Fuck having the Kop, the main stand, the Kenny Dalglish stand and the Amazon Prime stand.

All for the sake of a pointless amount of revenue.

  14. As a lifelong Clevelander we still call it Cleveland Browns Stadium. Whatever the corporate stooges do doesn’t really matter
