21 (twenty-one) paragraphs of attempted justification in this link, they know this isn’t a popular one. I honestly think it’s the kind of appointment most would have expected but with all the chat about much fancy model and statistics I think everyone got their hopes up.

The reality is that those kinds of models can’t just come in and work in a week. Most top level clubs know who their potential successors are even when managers are doing well, and more importantly know if they can get them. No matter how good your fancy model is, the number of people available to you at a decent price in the middle of the season is always going to be pretty small.

  2. Without reading into it much, this feels a bit underwhelming. QPR and Blackpool are both jobs that seem to be a bit of a mess these days so maybe there is some leeway there. Did he have them playing good football at all, good underlying numbers? His QPR spell seems an absolute disaster though.

  3. it would be very Hearts for this to go badly wrong and for the club hierarchy to conclude that hiring an outsider is a mistake, leading the next Manager to be either Derek McInnes or a third spell for Robbie Neilson in the Championship

  4. The odds are not good. Any manager who hasn’t been a player before (a proper career) has no authority on the top flight pitch. Imagine getting orders barked at you when the guy hasn’t played himself? How can you speak from a position of wisdom? Or this could be me being ignorant? I dunno.

On another note: Hearts on paper have a solid team, though board’s decisions are staggering, almost like they want to self sabotage. Maybe he’ll get a contract extension after 8 games?

  5. Why the hell not. I’ll give him the same patience and chance that Id give anyone new to the job.
