Paul Gascoigne interview: At Tottenham, I asked for a couple of tickets and they said ‘that’ll be 400 pounds each.’ I was like, wow, with all I did for that club, you know?

  1. Didn’t he not only racially abuse his black bodyguard but also beat his wife? I don’t think the club should be helping him out after that.

  2. Part of me thinks that there should just be an open door – former players get X amounts of tickets each year. Regardless whether it’s a club legend or someone with a single sub appearance. They’re all part of the club’s history. They just made that player number history thing and all those guys are part of it.

The other part of me thinks Gazza’s a wife beating shit head who hid a really nasty streak behind a jovial personality so fuck him.

  3. I am always a bit conflicted when it comes to this type of thing. In the modern age of football players often earn weekly sums that far exceed what the regular Joe would earn in a year. And so asking for handouts whilst earning a fortune makes me feel icky.
Having said that, the older generation of footballers didn’t earn this type of wage but still perhaps earned enough to keep them in a comfortable lifestyle (unless they’ve pissed it up a tree). I would argue that Spurs have done as much for Gascoigne as he has done for them.

  4. It’s not like a professional footballer couldn’t afford a couple of grand for tickets for his friends and family

Listen I love how we’re finally talking about how much of shithead he is but I wonder will the same people be criticizing him if he said something pleasant about Levy? I don’t think so.

If the club cared about his misdeeds they would have cut him off completely but this isn’t that. They have no problem with bringing him on and using him for promos. So lets look at the principle of this. What a terrible way to handle a legend. They are running a cold hearted business not a football club.

No sympathy for him specifically, but once again speaks to the farcical leadership of this club. Not even as if you can make the moral argument considering how happy they are to use Gascoigne’s image and parade him around as a legend, it’s just incompetent greed without any actual benefit

The club did plenty for you Paul. It just seems trendy to stick the knife in on us atm

  8. “with all I did for that club”

Not like they didn’t do anything for you either… Might not have been on £100k a week like today’s players, but he earned more than enough to set himself up for life.

That’s how the club repaid what he did for them! It’s not their fault he pissed it away.

We’ve also got Ramon Vega kvetching about not getting freebies.

In Vega’s case it might be the club noticed he slags us off constantly so told him to do one…

So much “I” in that article, bring every question back to him signing for Lazio and being unbelievably talented
