Former Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel is in advanced talks to become the new England manager after being approached by the FA.
Negotiations could now accelerate rapidly as the FA moves to end the uncertainty that has swirled around the position since Gareth Southgate’s resignation after England lost the Euro 2024 final to Spain in July.
Overtures to Tuchel, who has been out of work since leaving Bayern Munich at the end of last season, have been made by Mark Bullingham, the FA chief executive, and technical director John McDermott and the 51-year-old German is keen to take up the role.
The FA have also sounded out other candidates including Pep Guardiola, another former Bayern manager.
