Interesting bit of news from the Athletic, regarding "tensions" and "tit for tat" behavior between 2 big clubs and Man Utd. The story comes from Liam Twomey, Gregg Evans and others.

Summary below:

Tensions between Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester United at the academy level have led to scouts being denied access to youth matches. In recent weeks, scouts from Liverpool and United have had their accreditation requests rejected for games at Chelsea’s Cobham training center. The situation is said to be reciprocal, as Chelsea scouts have reportedly faced similar issues at Liverpool, though Liverpool denies rejecting any requests this season. Sources claim Chelsea initiated the restrictions, likely in response to losing their promising 16-year-old talent, Rio Ngumoha, to Liverpool last summer. This move has been controversial, even though it complied with Premier League rules.

Although no formal bans have been issued, Premier League regulations require clubs to allow scouts access, provided they follow notification procedures. Representatives from all three clubs met recently to address the situation, but no resolution has been reached. During this time, other club personnel have still been granted access to games. Chelsea’s academy has undergone leadership changes, with new directors and recruitment heads taking charge, marking a new phase for the club’s youth development structure.

  1. If it carries on it’ll lead to even more reform at youth level I’d imagine. They already have limited length contracts and a bunch of things you’re not allowed to do when signing players, along with fees decided by a board even if the player leaves on a free or a fee is offered but either club disagrees with it.

The player is losing out if he can’t be scouted by other clubs and so it’s another problem that needs fixing in the seemingly never ending cycle of clubs not giving a fuck about youth players unless they’re going to make them large amount of money (more than they’ll get through compensation when they leave on a “free”).

  2. who was watching the youth team – is this kid that good? i mean we had Charly Musonda and Gael Kakuta back in the day, so probably this kid is not that good. i’m just wondering
