The Bill Shankly Boys: 1972/73.

This season started the 'Glory years' for Liverpool FC, as they began their dominance of English Football, winning the league title for the first time since the 1965/66 season. They also won the UEFA Cup beating Borrusia Mochengladbach in the final. What a team.

My great uncle took my father to a match in that ’72-’73 season. Albeit a 0-2 loss at home to Arsenal. However, my great uncle managed to get my dad into the dressing room and got 11 autographs, starting XI minus one and Phil Thompson. Keegan, Clemence, Toshack, Lloyd, Callaghan, Smith etc. the minus one was Emlyn Hughes. He apparently was very angry over the loss, got dressed in a huff without speaking to anyone and stormed out of the dressing room and screeched his tires leaving the parking lot. I have those autographs now and they are some of my most treasured possessions.

    You’ll Never Walk Alone.
