There’s a lot of clubs and fans who think that having rich owners should be a green light for spending what they want. There have been enough horror stories in the EFL to warn against going all in with sugar daddy owners. Chelsea couldn’t pay their wages after their previous owner had his assets frozen, and Everton suffered similar difficulties.
What this boils down to is that rich people don’t like being told what to do, and fans lose their senses when it comes to football.

Portsmouth went into administration before they were even relegated, so in fact Leeds is literally the only case in the last like 20 years of a team going bust because of relegation.
Yes I am hijacking this post to complain about parachute payments yet again. There simply was never a strong enough case to implement them in the first place. Teams that go bust overwhelmingly do so due to terrible ownership and bad decisions (Palace, Reading, Pompey, Bury, Derby, even Rangers in Scotland), not due to relegation. Even Leeds took three whole years to enter administration after relegation, and while West Brom appear to have been saved from a similar fate, it could easily have happened to them this season even with the parachute.
So the payments attempt to solve a problem that barely existed, and the result is a huge disadvantage for teams that haven’t just been recently relegated from the Prem. Especially because even if they had money, they aren’t allowed to spend it at the same rates as parachute teams due to FFP/PSR.

OK curious what everyone thinks. With the current FFP rules how does a club thats not a big 6 club compete with the top without the risk of overspending. Like genuinly curious what the end goal is for clubs once they get to the prem is it just hang on for dear life for the first few years whilst the prem money starts to kick in.
We did do silly things like buy 300 players and its why are fucked not defending those decisions but how do the other 14 have a chance. Maybe they will get a nice time in one of the lower european cups like ecl one year and thats what you aim for.

The gap is getting bigger and bigger, the sooner the super league comes along and wipes out the top 6 the better. Will start to become more competitive instantly.
