Back in the day when the FA Cup & League Cup runners-up used to qualify for Europe if the winners were already qualified.

Wigan as well a few years back, but they actually won it.

I imagine it got changed as can ruin our UEFA coefficient in some cases. God forbid Tottenham don’t get to start their Europa League matches one round later.

Yeah I remember my Dad not letting me go as he thought it would get nasty with the Hungary hooligans. Don’t know if it kicked off but having attended a low level Britain v Hungary basketball game and seeing how mental and rowdy for a fight their fans were there I’m thinking Dad did 12 year old me a favour.

Yeah, our entire school paused to watch the semi-final draw and celebrated when we got Millwall . On the day, [Tim Cahill played like prime Zidane](https://www.bing.com/ck/a?!&&p=75b0f4ddf7a8725bJmltdHM9MTcxMjE4ODgwMCZpZ3VpZD0yMTRlOTM0My02MDhhLTY5YWMtMjBlMS04NzFiNjE5ZjY4ZGImaW5zaWQ9NTM1MA&ptn=3&ver=2&hsh=3&fclid=214e9343-608a-69ac-20e1-871b619f68db&psq=fa+cup+semi+final+draw+%222004%22&u=a1aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cueW91dHViZS5jb20vd2F0Y2g_dj1fdVRCVkcyVWtiaw&ntb=1) and sent them to the final.

Winners Man United beat Invincibles Arsenal in the other semi.

Also I think that Charlton did well in the premiereship that year, and hoping for European football by finishing 7th or something, but didn’t qualify due to us nabbing the spot as FA cup finalists. Which made it all the more funny at the time.
