Any other Championship clubs do this? It’s such a fantastic idea.

“A fund to provide Coventry City season tickets for fans who can’t afford one has already bought 65 for deserving supporters so far this summer.

Accountant and life-long Sky Blues fan Simon Miller has raised more than £65,000 over the last seven years via a ‘ gofundme ’ page he set up in 2018 to provide opportunities for parents and their children to get themselves ‘up the City’ on a regular basis.

The 54-year-old, who lives a stone’s throw from the club’s training ground at Ryton, raised £2,000 in his first year and things have snow-balled from there. So far this year the fund has raised over £11,300 and it is hoped to provide up to 100 season tickets by the time the new season kicks off at the CBS Arena.” […]

“We have had a nice one this year with a school nominating a child whose life has been transformed after they went to a game last year and then knuckled down and the school wanted them to carry on that progress. So we bought an under-12 for the child and his foster carer.”

It’s really admirable and a further reason to like your club.

We just pay like we’re the top premier league club that we used to be.

Incredible the story of the child though and is the reason why our local clubs are so much more than just some franchise ala the top premier league teams

One of our forums raises money to buy season tickets, and then individual match tickets are given out on a no-questions-asked basis to fans who can’t afford to go. Seems like a neat idea and I don’t think it gets abused.

Is this why there is so much riff raff amongst the Coventry supporting ranks?

Nah we just have the most expensive season tickets in the league even though nobodies got a penny to scratch their arse with.

Edit: and we’re not even good

  5. Definitely a good idea, though would be a bit underwhelming story for any clubs with sold out tickets and a waiting list lol

‘We’ve raised the money to provide little Timmy a season ticket, and in 6 years he’ll be able to get one’

  6. My dad got his first season tickets in 30 years via this fund a few seasons ago. It’s brilliant and Simon’s a true credit to the club and our fan base.
