Reading his Wikipedia page, it looks as though he has a great track record of signing decent players, but hops around an awful lot. Let’s hope he’s here longer than that other numpty.
Oh damn. He’s found some absolute gems in the past.

When we were told there was likely to be an out of nowhere signing…sporting director was not the one I thought it would be!

That’ll do lads!

Crazy that this hasn’t been reported anywhere. Gives me hope that transfers are happening behind the scenes too

Well, fuck me.
Again, this shows the journos have fuck all idea what is actual going on in the club as this came from nowhere.

Great news! Now let’s pick up those guys who left Chelsea’s academy to bring some quality to that side of the club too.

I wonder if this is where those rumours about the Saudis buying Monaco came from.

This came out of nowhere! Tell me how to feel!

Felt abit down about the club recently with the psr sales and whatnot, then I see news like this and I just remember we’re a big bloody deal now, and I’m back hooked to see what right winger Paul is going to deliver to me

This is the type of resume we need to help us through PSR shenanigans and find us some diamonds in the rough, love it!

Must have decided not to appoint anyone until Ashworth had formally gone I think, so as not to weaken our negotiating position? This seems like a great appointment, either way!

Reading his Wiki has me feeling like a middle aged woman who discovered 50 shades of grey. Never heard of the fella, but the CV looks pretty outstanding.

I’m so used to ex-Newcastle players turning up at MK Dons but it’s so weird to see an ex-MK Dons player hired at Newcastle.

Really happy about this great balance between knowing the English game as well as showing willingness to look abroad for talent as well.
Best part will be flicking Twitter up later on and watch all the ITKs pretending they knew all along it was happening

Feels like this past week has been a mini Ashley era, and I’m so punch drunk and para that I’m having to fight immediate cynicism about this appointment. I’m sure he’ll do great, but I’m just not in the right place to process this right now.

The board has done a great job of keeping important deals quiet until they’re done. And yet another reminder that the press aren’t as well connected to the inner circle of the club as they would like you to think.

So that was why the top brass were in Monaco.

I saw mention a while back that we’d wanted him to be the overall sporting director of a multi-club project where we would buy a Belgian club, a French club, possibly a Portuguese club, and possibly a Brazilian club. The concept was thar we wanted Freedman as the sporting director for Newcastle specifically, with Mitchell above him.
It all went quiet on us going for him and the press had the massive focus on it being Freedman/Spors, presumably because they’d been briefed that Mitchell wouldn’t be Newcastle’s sporting director (which would have technically been accurate in the above plan)
In hindsight it would make sense that this situation existed/exists as you can see why Freedman would reject our offer when he’d be reporting to someone else, especially if the Eagle Group or whatever might give him that role overseeing Botafogo and Lyon too. Therefore rather than go for Spors we’ve decided to have Mitchell directly, especially as the PIF haven’t actually purchased any other clubs.
Let’s see if the PIF do eventually buy more clubs and promote Mitchell at that stage 🤔
This is a very good appointment, has done good work at all the spots he’s been at. Much happier with this then the other bloke, Spors, was it? Much better CV.
Good to have sporting expertise back at the head of the club again too.
