Shame but the right decision from him I reckon. If he hung on even longer he’d be plagued by the same injuries. One five minute appearance in his last season is shite, he didn’t deserve that. Basically fully done at like what, 31 years old?
He was worth bringing in for the first half of his time here. He done well to come back after being put out for months by that yard dog Richarlison, helped us back into the Champions League and was excellent when he played the next season. As far as Liverpool players who never won the title or Champions League at the club but really deserved to, he was right up there.
His wife is said to be a real diamond of a person too. All the best to them.

Will never forget that masterclass he dropped against United.

Saw it coming. He should to management.

For the best. Phenomenal player another one sadly let down by his own body. Enjoy retirement.

It’s fucking painful. But it was time.
The man’s brain was there, the heart was there, and the desire was there.
His body had just left him behind. And couldn’t go anymore. Absolutely ravaged by injuries and pretty much has his career ended by pep rushing him back at Bayern from serious injuries despite being told by doctors he wasn’t ready.
Was never the same player since in terms of durability.

At least we got to see him shine, however shortly, in our kit
Adept-Key3969 on
Make sense regarding how prone to injuries he is, but damn just reading that got to me. Hopes he live a long life and still be able to remain within the beautiful game in others ways. Thank you for time in Liverpool Thiago Alcantara, and YNWA.

We will always have that performance against Manchester United at Anfield. One of the most technically gifted players to ever play for Liverpool

Bring him back as a coach specifically for Bajcetic

Wouldn’t be shocked to see him start coaching, as he always seemed to enjoy helping the younger players get better.

One of the most skilled players we’ve ever had.
Never forget his goal against Porto and when he took the piss out of United.

Please bring him as coach for us.

Very sad. An absolutely sensational player. I still remember the hype when he joined. Felt like the club had really entered a new era, where genuine world class prestige players were wanting to come here. Just glad we got to see him work his magic in a Liverpool shirt.

Man, this is a Modric level midfielder if not for his body. One of my favourite footballers of the last decade. A titan technician who epitomised everything that made the beautiful game.
I wish to see him manage Liverpool one day.

Classy and correct decision. Hard to believe he couldn’t have taken a pay day in the arse end of somewhere.

Truly hope he coaches. An absolute joy to watch, and it’s clear how much he loves the game.

Absolutely gutted for the lad, incredible technical ability. There’s a video on YouTube of him no bounce control & passing which I’ve shown to my kids teams as part of learning session.

I hope his life after football is just as beautiful as it when he played.

Easily the best player in the world that could only manage 20 games a season.
To be fair if he could have consistently done 40 a season there’s no chance he’d have ever left Barcelona let alone ended up with us.
Those good bits though, my were they insane – and a genuinely nice bloke too. Viva Thiago!

Really sad to hear but it’s definitely best for him, what a player and I’m proud to say he retired with us even if it wasn’t his original plan. Hope he can get his coaching badges and use his elite footballing brain in the way his body often failed him.

Damn, I remember how good he looked in his debut against Chelsea a couple years back. Didn’t he brake the record for most passes in a second half or something along those lines?
rogerwilcove on
A mundane memory of watching the team training on youtube, Thiago and Jordan Henderson paired on passing drill to warm up. Every other player would just knock it back and forth, Thiago would challenge himself to do a different touch to control the ball, and then do all varieties of passes with spin. Probably just entertaining himself but it made an impression.
May he find his next journey post football career.

He must really be in a bad way physically as I’d suspect he could get an offer from the Saudis or one last pay day.

Good for him. You would always love to leave the game on your own terms but sport can be cruel like that. Regardless, he made the game more beautiful when he was on the pitch and his presence will be missed.

Sadly saw this coming his body had broken down.
Phenomenal footballer, so skillful and intelligent, a joy to watch when fit.
We need to bring him in as a coach, he’s absolutely the type to make it to the top
God, what a shame. I know he’s won a lot, but you can’t help but wonder what might’ve been if his body could have kept up with his talent.
Remember, bald fraud pep, had a hand in his chronic illness. I might not prove it 100%, but, I’m willing to die on that hill.
