[Pearce] #LFC have turned down offers from Mainz and Wolfsburg for Sepp van den Berg with the defender set to be handed the chance to shine in the friendlies. Has really impressed Arne Slot and his staff since returning for pre-season at Kirkby last week.

Well who knows, maybe we have another Quansah situation in our hands, he’s young and had a good season, worried about his ball playing stats, but maybe that’s due to Mainz’s style.

  2. I’m completely fine with this – happy even. But I know we’ll get some huge negative overreactions before he even gets a chance to impress

I’d love to see Sepp get a look in. I thought he was quite good in the Mainz games I watched, and he’s still just 22. I think there’s every chance he could be ready to contribute for us, and if Slot’s happy with his showings in training, I’m happy to trust that. A lot of us were up in arms about buying a CB last summer, but I think we ended up much better off for giving Quansah a run in the team. I think it could easily be the same with Sepp.

I mean anyone surprised? Ofc Arne would give a chance. Never thought wecd sell him without Arne taking a look at him. Also him being dutch gave him an edge too. I rather think Arne actually is impressed.

  5. It’s so obvious some people just want shiny new toys reading the comments on this thread, we gave quansah a chance and he was fantastic and saved us a lot of money. Nothing stopping sepp do the same. If he were shit mainz wouldn’t want him back would they. Give the lad a chance

  6. Definitely deserves a chance. Took massive steps forward in those last six months. Developed into a proper beast in the air, and has been solid enough in other areas. He’s not that shy lanky tall teenager that we saw last saw in a red shirt anymore. Would be stupid not to have a proper look at him given that Virgil and Ibou are still at the Euros.

There’s got to be a reason there’s always been interest from other clubs

  8. For me, this is one of the largest benefits of a new coaching staff – a fresh set of eyes on every player

If his performances from last season are anything to go off, he and Quansah are a perfectly adequate replacement for Matip

Completely fine with giving him his chance. I know he said he wanted to leave, and that’s fine if he does, but he was really good last season and he’s definitely come on leaps and bounds. He’s grown into his body a little bit. And we’re likely not going to have fit CBs for the start of the season bar Quansah so, he might have to start the season at this rate lol

I can’t recall ever watching him play for us, but I’ve watched his younger brother a lot for Boro and he’ll be a 30-40 million defender in a few years. I would happily give Sepp a chance unless there’s a left footer out there we could realistically buy

Didn’t the kid say he was basically completely against staying at the club no matter what, due to all his previous years without a look and being loaned out? I honestly don’t see how he fits into the team if he’s not content with being a rotation player and even then he’s gotta beat out Gomez and Quansah.

  13. That night after watching the first preseason vid… I had a dream that Bradders, Sepp, Jarrell and JoMez were our starting defense with trent Captain in the 2035 CL final… So yeah, Nostradamus this into existence basically

I actually think a majority of LFC fans will be ok with this. I believe he counts as homegrown, still very young and his underlying stats are decent. He’ll get opportunities to play, especially since Virgil is getting older and Konate is unfortunately injury prone.

Deserves a chance, perfectly happy with this. I am however a little worried that if a VVD extension doesn’t materialise then those are gonna be some impossible shoes to fill for Konate and a couple of youngsters next season.

We bought him for next to nothing made the right moves with loans and chances showed a lot last season give the lad a chance

Understand value high at moment but lad could prove to be a class player

  17. I expect the Dutch to take over now we got Arne. Gakpo and grav will play bigger parts as well

  18. I mean if we have both Sepp and Quansah as cover for Van Dijk, Konate and Gomez then I’m happy as Larry to be honest.

It means we can focus the spending elsewhere and gives us a little more breathing room.

It’s great that he may finally get a chance. I’ve never understood why he and Nat Phillips weren’t given more of a look in after they were called up in our hour (season) of need. I thought they were both impressive, especially given their youth, and was surprised when they didn’t feature on the bench and weren’t considered.

  20. I genuinely need an actual analysis from someone who watched him last season…what part of the game does he shine in, what are his noticeably weaknesses and could you see him doing a Quansah of last season (by that I mean get to a point where we don’t fret when we see him in the lineup)?

  21. I’m taking this with a big old grain of salt. Ultimately, it means nothing.  He’ll either stay and compete for a place, or the club is using the ITKs as part of the negotiation process to drive up his price.

  22. We just lost Matip. We are not exactly overflowing with defenders. I welcome  this decision.

he got a great showing on loan last season, won’t hurt giving him chance at friendlies.

  24. I’m optimistic that Van Den Berg can be a break out star for us this year similar to Quansah and Bradley last year.

  25. That’s great and everything baby, but we quite literally don’t have CBs that can play on the left
