Tottenham completely dominating a team in the first half but only managing to score 1 goal at most? Then conceding to draw/lose the game? Where have I seen this before
unambiguoschip on
I’ve been doing this for decades now in every Tottenham game except Tottenham 5 Newcastle 0 under Redknapp

Yeah we’re not winning shit playing like that. Ange has a lot to figure out if he wants to continue history in his second season

when we create all those chances and never finish them, what more can we do? tack on a few extra shooting drills in training and move on

Thought we played well

7 shots on target and all besides the goal were right at the keeper. Incredibly poor finishing today.

I really dont want it to be one of those seasons. Still, first game should keep our heads up and hope things can start to click.

A match we should have won by 3 or 4, instead we get a draw, felt like players were try to create thr perfect goal rather than just taking chances

Idk why we make scoring goals look so so difficult

The goal conceded looked like past goals conceded. I hate it

Yeah, here’s the thing. We are never winning 1-0 with Angeball. And Ange knows it. We need to get our shit together and start scoring goals for fun and then just let the clock expire before we let the opposition equalize. At this rate, we need 2 but probably 3 goals to see out a win. Who gives a fuck if we give up 1.5 goals per game (what we did last season), if we score 3 every week. That has to be the plan. No one who’s watched us thinks we’re a tactical tinker away from being a steel trap at the back.

Didn’t we draw our first game of the year last year also?

Looked like a team that didn’t know how to use it’s striker, and a striker still getting to know his team. Have faith…I don’t believe Johnson will be starting by January, great player to have in the squad though.

Johnson just does nothing, Werner more of the same

I thought we were outstanding in the build up play for the first 60. So when Leicester equalised out of nowhere I wasn’t really fussed. Thought we’d just get back on the ball and play. But it didn’t happen. That was very frustrating as better teams will sense there is still a big underbelly with Angeball.

We are so confusing. It’s always a game of two half’s, I remember under conte we called ourselves second half FC now it’s first half FC I really really don’t get this club sometimes.

Other than city we probably had the best showing out of the big clubs but we are the only ones to drop points. God it’s good to be back

One side of the argument is that it’s the first game of the season, maybe we’re a little rusty and not up to speed yet.
But the other side of the argument is more telling of the overall progression from last season. Being that it’s the exact same things that were happening last season for the 2/3 of the season that costed us so many points and embarrassing moments. The same frailties in mentality and attacking threat are still there.
We really need dangerous wingers, it’s killing us.

The difference between arsenal and us right now is that arsenal score the second goal in the 43rd minute and Leicester give up knowing they can’t chase a 2-0 against a better team. So much of football is psychological and that psychological element is built on the back of patterns shown in previous games. Teams *know* that we will gift them a high xg chance at some point and they also know we aren’t going to create a shitload of high xg chances, so there’s no fear there, get caught in transition? It’s ok their wingers will fuck it and slow the play down or jog inside into a defender, it’s not *scary*, they can *see* what our players will do because they have the tapes. It’s why we went from looking bang tidy last season to legitimately being mid table mediocrity from January onwards. Once the opposition *know* what you will do then you’re fucking cooked one way or the other. Everyone knows salahs going to cut inside but he’s so good at it it just reinforces the fear, oh God he’s coming inside where *I’m* on my weak foot. When Brennan Johnson gets the ball they *know* he’s going to put a shit cross in that they will clear easily.
Yeah it’s one game but it’s the same exact problems from january-may last season and that was *just as bad as contes last season*.
