Statements:
Vincent Kompany:
"We had very good positioning in the first half and played the way we wanted. In the second half you could see that we still need rhythm. Every game we win is a step forward"
On Thomas Müller's record: "Incredible. I was there for his first game on this pitch when I was at HSV. It's unbelievable. 710 games where he gave 100%, in training as well. That makes him special. There are still many games for him to play"
"The first half was really positive for us trying to limit the threat of the opponent and at the same time create our own chances. We were good on the second balls and the counter pressing. In the second half we were one step later than Freiburg players on the second balls and lost a bit of momentum. I have to say we're very fortunate to have players [on the bench] who can make the difference. Thomas Müller and Kingsley Coman were very important for us to win the game"
Thomas Müller
on becoming Bayern's record player: "I've always said that such records are not that important to me. Whether it's 710, 712 or 325 games, it doesn't matter to me. I’m more pleased about the goal I scored today, which was technically brilliant".
on comparisons with other Bayern legends: "I can only repeat what Uli Hoeneß has often said: The greatest is simply Gerd Müller, without him the club might not even exist in this form right now"
Joshua Kimmich
on his position today: "It was very specific to the opponent. I didn't play as a classic right-back, because Grifo plays in a free position so we didn't need one and I had a free position as well. As I said it's specific to today's opponent. I see it as a strength to be able to play in two positions [right-back and midfield]. We solved it very well as a team today"
on today's game compared to Wolfsburg: "The first half today and in Wolfsburg we controlled the games very well. The second half today was less 'wild'. We didn't concede any chances in both halves today. We absolutely deserved to win both games"
on the national team captaincy: "I was vice captain at the Euros. Ilkay has now retired, so the roles have been redistributed, the cards have been reshuffled. I don't know yet, we'll see. In general, I haven't given it much thought. I'll join the national team tomorrow. And then we'll see what the coach has to say"
Manuel Neuer:
"It was a good performance. The season is still very young. It was important that we kept a clean sheet, that we were the better team and are slowly getting into our stride"
Max Eberl
confirms that Kingsley Coman is definitely staying at Bayern this season: "King is staying with us"
"When you get two wins from two games then you're on target. Everything is good. If you've won, you've done a lot of things right. It's nice when the coach tries something and tries to be attacking. Freiburg always fly a little bit under the radar, they beat Stuttgart, they run a lot and make practically no mistakes. We beat them and didn't concede a goal."
Freiburg captain Christian Günter
on the penalty given to Bayern: "A really crazy penalty. One thing is that it was probably from 50 centimeters, the other is that when you make a movement, when you jump, then of course your arms go up a bit. Rose [Rosenfelder] had his arm behind his body. So if that's handball, then I'd rather stop playing football, because that's really such nonsense. I really don't understand it."
"Maybe the DFB should do some training on how to jump without arms. That would be good. Maybe they should introduce that before the season next year, they should come and show us how to jump without arms. I don't understand it. But the people who decide should step in front of the cameras and explain these situations."

You've been in charge for almost two months now. How much of Vincent Kompany football have we seen?
Kompany: "It doesn't have to be Vincent Kompany football, it has to be Bayern football. What's important to me is that we show the right mentality, again and again, and that we help each other. But I'm a coach, so I'm never satisfied with everything. But if the mentality is right, then you can work. We had a good pre-season, a nice win against Freiburg and we started the season well."
You gave Leon Goretzka a chance [against Freiburg]. Was that also a sign to the team and to Leon Goretzka?
Kompany: "The transfer window is now over. What's important for me is that we've already given minutes to almost the whole team after two games. Only Leroy is still out because he's not 100% fit. That means we're doing this together – and Leon is of course part of that."
