Sunderland supporters have been ranked as the most dedicated in the EFL after selling 60,000 away tickets last season and covering 294 million miles as a fanbase on their travels last season.
Plymouth Argyle came in at second, and Leeds came third – Bolton and Birmingham were the only League 1 sides and recently promoted Portsmouth also featured in the top 10.
Not sure Leeds fans will be happy with this one.

Makes sense that they would want to spend as much time as possible outside of Sunderland itself.
I think we are ok with it, getting Leeds away tickets you basically have to sacrifice your first born. Even when we where shit they where hard to get. Clubs also give us less allocation as they use more seats to section us off
The metric used is total miles travelled by fans so no surprise there. Not really fair on the more centrally-based clubs but let’s ignore that and say this is definitive evidence that we are bigger than Leeds
Leeds should have taken more.
That makes sense. The supporters were great coming down to us. Completely sold out the away end and were loud
Let’s see at end of this season then
But fair play Sunderland do travel well
Also have to account into it certain teams will be allowed less or more depending on noise
I worked with a Ipswich fan dirt cheap away tickets loads I think 8k was on offer
Pompey nah full price tickets and no where near 8k think 3k đ
well this is the most conclusive proof yet that we are indeed winning the league
The stat used is miles traveled which basically makes it a easy win for the furthest distance clubs, in this case Sunderland and Plymouth.
The better stat would be % of away allocation sold/filled over the whole of last season.
Why? Sunderland is simply further away from most teams than Leeds and the metric is miles covered. I might as well not be happy that grass exists.
They’ll be along shortly…..
Sorry but this Leeds being the best/loudest thing is a myth from the past, perpetuated by the internet.
Have you heard our fans at home this season? Me neither! Elland Road has been getting quieter for some time – weâre now the Anfield of the championship. Oh yeah – terrifying place to go when weâre 3-0 up.
One thing we are unrivalled at though is apparently voting for stuff online that no-one is interested in/childish enough to bother about.
how not to use statistics
Iâm always awed by Sunderland away support. Itâs very good for the league. The home attendance is also remarkable considering the size of the city and the proximity of an oil club. Iâm not a supporter but Iâd love to see them promoted so we all have that derby to enjoy.
General question from a foreigner: Do most people use the trains to travel to away matches?
I mean itâs thereâs to lose if itâs based off miles travelled đ
Probably flatters Leeds tbh given the other two are automatically gonna be top considering the location of the clubs and thus distance travelled
Even though based on mileage there is no denying it’s a hard-core support
Distance travelled đ
Can barely afford home games never mind travelling up and down the country most weeks. Would love to see the stats on how much each fan base has to pay on average to get to away games over a full season then this would make the statistic look a bit more credible given how much we pay just to travel such distances.
Got some good ones in there somewhere. Not all bad tbh; itâs my club you do get the odd bitter ones along the way but which club doesnâtâŒïžđŻ
I did 58/58 matches in League One a few seasons ago and I decided the distances I travelled from Fratton Park to every match.
