Yeah alright, match days are brilliant. The feeling on a Tuesday/Wednesday or Saturday/Sunday after a win is brilliant. But…

I kind of miss being shit. I miss the drama of it all. I miss getting worked up by someone on Reddit when they claim the players are the problem, not Gerrard. I miss getting into debates on why Ings is better than Watkins, or why Matt Targett is the real key to getting the absolute best out of Jack Grealish.

I miss scapegoating Danny Drinkwater and working myself up into a frenzy for a week after we complete only 5% of all attempted passes against Watford.

I miss the drama. Thanks Unai, I really appreciate everything, but it's kind of boring being this consistently excellent.

Do you think we will ever get to the stage where we are throwing a cabbage at a manager again?

  2. I think it’s going to take me a lot longer than 2.5y to shake off the previous 3 decades of being shit tbh.

  3. Went to City Vs Inter the other night on a freebie. Don’t you worry, we’re a long long long way away from being as bored as that fanbase is. Turns out that after a decade of playing football with monopoly money, the success genuinely does start to mean less.

  4. Nah not bored yet. Saw some right dross 2012-2022 bar a few fun games i went to in the championship when we had Tammy and Grealish firing on all cylinders. The new response from other footy fans when you tell them you’re a villa fan hasn’t worn off yet either 😉

  5. I lost interest in football after I began secondary school. Different friend groups, never really well-liked by the sportier kids, etc. I’ve come back to it since moving to university and meeting football-heads that reignited my interest.

I came back pretty much right when Emery joined, and I was taken aback. Villa….consistently winning and achieving things? Not what I expected based on my childhood memories.

The thing is….in a way I’m kind of sad that I missed those days in the Championship. I’d love to be able to feel the way those fans do now, with the club being in such a great place after knowing such struggles. It’s like a poor man eventually becoming rich; he can truly appreciate it. Of course, I definitely feel some sense of it, I was made fun of a lot in my early school days for supporting a ‘bad’ team (come on, we were still in the Premier League), but surely those who suffered through the club’s worst days feel a greater satisfaction now.

Or maybe I’m being stupid. Anyone who did suffer through it care to weigh in?

  6. Nope, after being a fan for 30+ years and not seeing us winning like this since O’Neil was in charge I fucking love it. Maybe after we win our 3rd premier league title it’ll get boring but right now it’s just great

  7. Cannot relate to this at all. Villa are far from the finished article, we will 100% still fuck up from time to time and with FFP etc we will have to make hard choices which will deffo have big ramifications for a club like us finishing around 4th/5th place.

I thoroughly enjoy the football but I know it’s not a given we will win. Look at Everton the other week…we were dominant but found ourselves 2-0 down

  8. My first love is my MLS side, FC Cincinnati. I watched them join MLS and promptly finish dead last three straight years, in a system where they can’t even get relegated to a proper level of competition.

My other loves are Villa, alongside MLBs Cincinnati Reds and the NFLs Cincinnati Bengals

All this to say, if you know anything about American sports…no, I don’t think I’ll be bored with a winning team anytime soon. Winning is *really nice*.

  9. I live in Arsenal/Spurs territory. I visited a sandwich shop for lunch (I had a mozz, jalapeno, chorizo melt, just in case anyone is interested) and their were two Arsenal fans claiming Raya was the worlds best and how they should have signed Amadou Onana in the summer…

    “Who do you support mate?”

    “Villa”

They had nothing but respect for the job UE has done.

After all of the shit we’ve had over the years, it felt nice to be respected 💜🩵

  10. Don’t worry, we won’t be good forever, no team is. Enjoy the good times while they last. You’ll have plenty to moan about soon enough.
