Newcastle hosted Sunderland in the Tyne-Wear derby with both Managers under pressure after poor starts to the season.
Any plans Peter Reid had of stifling Newcastle’s offence was undone in 83 seconds, after a slick move from Dyer and Shearer put Bellamy through, to calmly slot in the bottom corner at the Leazes End.
A bloodied and bandaged Shearer absolutely smashed in the second, with a free-kick from the edge of the area just before half-time.
Frankly, it was astonishing this game didn’t finish 10-0, such was the extent of Newcastle’s dominance.
Another interesting fact about this game, is Peter Reid, does indeed, have a monkey’s heed.
