Peter Schmeichel: “This is the biggest game in the Premier League so far! Soft yellow cards! Why is Michael Oliver trying to ruin it? It’s a big game, emotions are flying high — understand what you are dealing with here, but no — Michael Oliver wants himself in the spotlight!”

  1. Just book Doku and i have no complaints. Against Brighton, just book Pedro and i have no complaints. Last season, send off Kovacic and i have no complaints.

But we’re not doing this. We’re being punishment for nonsense.

  2. Anyone saying that Trossard shouldn’t give him a decision or should know better can fuck off.

You could say that if this was a rule consistently applied, but 90% of the time no card is issued. So it’s not the letter of the law and it’s at the refs discretion. The referee has to want to send the player off or book him and that’s what Oliver did today.

Also hilarious it was for delaying a restart, but the restart didn’t exist as it was called HT right after

Edit: as a side that is a hilariously unbiased panel…

Because he’s bought and paid for. More pundits should be actively pointing out that ‘Flight’ to Dubai.

It’s simply blatant that, especially after being made out to be completely incompetent on multiple occasions last season, referees are starting to give out stupid yellow cards as an excuse to send off players from teams they don’t like and keep the status quo, because they can always hide behind “by the letter of the law” and “oh VAR can’t intervene on double yellow offences” and other excuses until the cheque cashes in.

This shit is absolutely ruining games, and is a blatant misuse of the purpose of the yellow card as a caution. The margin for a double yellow sending off should be higher, and if any common sense prevailed, Trossard would be given a final warning, Doku and Haaland would be given yellows, and no one would bat an eyelid.

Just shows that refs want to be the star of the show but want none of the criticism. Fuck them, fuck City and the FA when they inevitably bottle the 115 charges case.

  5. Every weekend in at least 3+ games the discussion at the end isn’t about the football but about the refs causing controversy and wrecking the game. Honestly sack the lot of them in the summer bring in a new batch and start training them properly. It never use to be like this they’re getting worse. we’ve dropped 4 points this season and both cases have come from being punished for something no other team or player is being punished for, it’s fucking crazy

  6. I actually think this one is on level with the RVP one.
Rice one ok he kicked the ball, this one Trossard has every right to play the ball for a counter attack

PGMOL want the referees to be ‘part of the action’ and generate ‘content’ in the same way as the actual football and players. Howard Webb has a lot to answer for, complete idiots.

  8. I think refs are corrupt as hell in this league, in 10 years time PGMOL will get spun and there will be a massive scandal of corruption just like City are going through now

  9. Two different sets of rules in the EPL. Last year, when he decided not to send off Kovacic it was a correct decision and the ref didn’t want to ruin the game even though Kovacic deserved to be off. But when situations are reversed, no one all of a sudden remembers the “spectacle” and it’s the right decision to send off Trossard. It’s BS and those who say otherwise clearly don’t see how PGMOL manipulates games in the EPL. It’s disgraceful and pathetic.

Lovely that former players of rival teams are calling out M.Oliver.

    Sadly nothing will happen…

  11. This oliver should be banned from all arsenal’s games. This guy clearly has some issues with us lmao

Probably the most infuriating take I’ve heard so far is people saying that ‘Trossard shouldn’t have given him the option’, because that’s not even the focus of the argument. If Trossard deserves to go he deserves to go, but then you have to consistently give yellow cards for the other incidents too. It’s not about ‘I think that my team’s player shouldn’t be sent off’. The problem is the consistency. If he gets a yellow, the others should get a yellow. Either all or none. Not a mixed bag where that mix results in a huge, HUGE advantage for one team.

  13. If you were trying to rig the league and get away with it, these second yellows would be a great way to do it.

  14. Honestly, refs should be forced to wear morph suits, be completely anonymous, and have their performance scored and challenged solely on 12 digit identification numbers.

If you remove the ability for these egomaniacs to desperately make the game all about them, you immediately remove 90% of the terrible decisions.

  15. People really need to drop this nonsense.

The premier league is not and will never be the best league in the world whilst we have a pathetic 115 charges over the ‘best team’, countless shocking refereeing decisions happen every weekend and the teams generally struggling in Europe.

The best league – no. The most commercial league – certainly.

  16. It’s straight bias from the referees, considering the number of times this happens. City fans calling out refs to be in the Red Cartel’s pocket but as a non Englishman, it sounds more like a Northern Cartel bias

  17. When King Henry II was having theological differences with Thomas of Beckett he angrily shouted ‘ won’t somebody rid me of this troublesome priest’

A group of his knights rode to Canterbury and executed Beckett for treason. King Henry was most upset because he was friends the man and spoke in anger.

Anyway what I am saying is ‘ will someone not rid me of this troublesome ref’ 😅

So what gets me is not just the selective pedantry but how both times Arsenal has been hosed, the ‘delay of the restart’ call has been borderline at best. Kavanaugh’s bullshit has been discussed to death. Oliver blew the whistle oddly late and it was as Leo had started the clearance. The barge was an obvious foul, although 4-5 times a game similar barges go uncalled.

  19. Make refs review old games where AI has removed all identifying information so it’s just unrecognizable players, unrecognizable kits and unrecognizable stadiums.
Remove their bias and see if they make same calls.
Mike Riley making the same called in that game in 04/05 if not it’s a non lethal electric shock treatment.
Oliver refs the wolves game and doesn’t send Martinelli off and it’s non lethal electric shock treatment.

Refs will pay for the crimes they have committed

  20. Then you have Roy Keane saying City were shit and Arsenal should receive no credit for their defending
