On the team’s defensive record this season and whether that has helped accelerate their general progress…

Yeah, the defence has been really good although I think in the last game I think we needed our goalkeeper too many times to keep the clean sheet. And I think it was yesterday or the day before I looked at the league table and, ‘OK, which teams did we face until now and which position are they? Are they in the top half or the bottom?’ I think all of them apart from [Manchester] United, I’m not sure about United, but most of them are in the bottom half of the table, so you have to take that into account as well. There are a lot of difficult teams we still have to face and if we are able after playing those teams as well – and after West Ham United tomorrow we go for two difficult away games – let’s see where we are then when it comes to conceding goals because maybe the fixture schedule has been ‘nice’ to us when you see the league table. And from the five games we have played three times at home, so that helps as well.

  1. Damn he is so damn realistic.

The true test will be Arsenal in a few weeks. I’m more eager to beat them than Citeh for some reason.

  2. I love both his Dutch honesty and also that United are now treated as such by the Liverpool manager and it’s not like a ridiculous attempted insult

  3. There are obviously tougher tests ahead, but the PL yields no easy games so I think we’ve made a solid start.

He’s got a point but I’m still really pleased with the team as a whole. I think they play a much more controlled football and it’s working so far. I’m sure we’ll play tough games before too long to really test our mettle but we can only play the teams in front of us for the time being.

  5. He’s got a point, looking at our schedule, we have some really tough games coming up especially after the next international break. All the tough games are coming together in one cluster.

  6. Said this the other day, it’s been poor finishing rather than great defending.

But people are getting carried away as usual, we will finish 3rd/4th.

  7. Forest has legit been the best team we’ve played this season. Bournemouth probably second best. Important to keep it in perspective with things about to ramp up

it’s not an entirely accurate representation though. because apart from forest, every team we have played will have dropped at least 3 points (and forest are the one exception in the teams we’ve played) – so that game alone will have impacted their position.

If you imagine after winning the first game, then no one in the premier league has won against a top half team,

after winning 2 games it’s still more than likely… and so on.

as the number of games go on, the points dropped in our game against them has less of an effect on their league position, but we are still early enough in the season that it’s still a factor.

  9. I think AC Milan was a good test and we passed quite easily. Still far greater tests to come in City, Arsenal, Madrid etc. but we are doing well and it’s great to let us build form before we have to play one of the better sides.
