looks like West Ham wanted to pay the £20m Euros he was valued in May. Is he worth £40m?

Villa’s valuation of him over the summer was 40m and they certainly aren’t lowering that number. I feel like Transfermarkt doesn’t do a good enough job factoring in age and contract status to their numbers, but I kind of get that since it would be weird to have the number jump up every time a player signed a new contract and then slowly go down over the course of that contract. Someone with a lot of time still left on a deal will always cost more than an otherwise equal player in the last year of his contract.

Considering how he’s started, I don’t think Villa would accept 40m anymore for him. My guess is the offer would have to be at least 50.

If West Ham would have just paid the 40 million we asked for he would have gone there.

At this point though 50 million will be the absolute minimum we ask for him. He’s too good for West Ham now but I can see Chelsea or Manchester United strongly considering bidding next summer.

However I am very happy he is still at Aston Villa and seems to be learning from the team.
