  1. His link-up play and movement are brilliant. He started last season as an offside merchant and kept getting booked but got that out of his game and the fact he underperforms his xg while scoring a decent number of goals only bodes well if he can also improve on his composure. He could bang 30+ goal a season if he does because he gets in the right positions

  2. After drogba, every other Chelsea striker has been absolutely shit. Lakaka, Fernando Torres, falcao, crespo, havertz etc… , but personally I think one guy did decently as a striker after drogba, and that guy is Diego Costa

  3. Talk about misleading

Chelsea DEFINITELY tried to bring in a striker so any failure to do so was not a “yk what? nah let’s stick with just Jackson.” No, it was clear obvious, and reported, that we ONLY had Jackson as a striker and we would bring one in.

Second, and related, Jackson’s contract extension was not (1) a new contract or (2) a club decision that was freshly made right then and there. Jackson’s contract INCLUDED an extension clause which would be TRIGGERED AUTOMATICALLY when certain metrics were met, SAME AS PALMER. Which means two things; (1) this isnt a crazy extension given to players who are already on long contracts and (2) if Jackson met his extension clause metric then that means he OUTPERFORMED WHAT WAS CONTRACTUALLY EXPECTED OF HIM FOR HIS FIRST YEAR, which destroys your “mixed bag” first season argument considering his own employers had set LOWER EXPECTATIONS for him and he EXCEEDED those.
