    ON THIS DAY 2004:

New Manager Graeme Souness took charge of his third game for United, after winning the first two.

After a goalless first half, once West Brom’s Darren Purse was sent off, Newcastle began to take control.
Kluivert opened the scoring after West Brom’s keeper could not clear a dangerous Robert cross.

The second came after great work from Jenas beating his man, before squaring it to youngster James Milner who scuffed it over the line.

Incredible wide work from Jenas again as he beat his full back, sprinted to by-line before pulling it back for Shearer to score the third.

West Brom got a late consolation, but it was now three in three wins for Souness at Newcastle United since being appointed.
