[Adam Crafton] I don’t understand the “who is out there?” argument in relation to Ten Hag. Clubs often don’t get ideal, first-choice candidates (neither Slot nor Postecoglu were). Man Utd are epically bad under Ten Hag over an extended period of time. The idea there’s no one better is absurd.

  1. Whether it’s tactics or not, he’s lost the fans and the players unfortunately. Hard to come back from that

Absolutely this. Sick of this being ten Hag supporters argument to keep him. Its a bad, bad state of affairs when that’s the only thing you can offer up to keep him

  3. He’s bang on the money. People think a new Fergie will come eventually. He won’t. Until it clicks we have to try again and again. The money is there.

  4. It’s a sad point when I look at the other 19 PL managers and start questioning which of them wouldnt do better than what we’re seeing now.

“Who is there” though feels particularly disingenuous to ask now

Was Slot really not their first choice candidate? It’s the only one I heard anything of. Tho I’m not really keeping up with scouse news ngl

  6. You get people like mark goldbridge pushing this line out to fans who are shall we say.. less capable of critical thought, as a last resort to try and reinforce their position. It’s a ridiculous argument. Trying to scare people into lowering their voices regarding ten hag out.

  7. He’s right but the perfect time to get an imperfect candidate would have been the summer. Such a shame we continued with ETH when so many signs pointed to this happening.

  8. yup exactly, Slot and Ange are the best eg. of this, and yet instead the ETH cult would come in with some “Well, actually…”, anything to distract from the fact that even if those 2 managers flatter to deceive, the fact is they’ve both bested ETH already and each time with a clearer style and game plan.

Not to mention, even if you do mention actual valid candidates like Tuchel, they come up with another host of reasons. There’s apparently literally no better candidate available out there so there’s ‘no choice’ but stick to with ETH. it’s the most disingenuous shit and impossible to have any semblance of a discussion

  9. Its what pissed me off about Mitten in the latest pod , there isnt going to be another fergie get with the times ffs

We play shit football and get shit results with a bunch of players that look bored and unmotivated.

Absolutely loads of managers could improve at least one of those things so there’s plenty of options.

All these we can talk retrospectively but I think the club did what they can do right given the situations and circumstances.

  12. Forget about who is out there. If Dan Ashworth and co have a manager in mind who is already managing a club then they should do whatever it takes to get him.

It didn’t stop Real Madrid from pinching Ancelotti on two separate occasions

There are several great and realistic options as well: Ruud, Ole (interim and recently said he would be happy to come back), Nagelsmann, and Tuchel.

Someone who can find a functional midfield would be nice. No way we should be this disjointed with the options we have, irrespective of their limitations.

Every manager who comes to Utd will be backed with actual money and those figures are more than either you or me will see in a lifetime that’s why so you can’t just go appointing managers because potential. I swear this dude wants to see us fail. It’s not fifa

  16. If anything, the likes of Slot and Maresca are showing that the success of a manager has a lot to do with the structure above and around him. We’ve seen the same with Barca and Madrid over the last 15 years. Chuck any manager their and the team will still be among the top 2/3 in the Spanish league. Just because Luis Enrique won the treble with Barca it doesn’t mean he’d do the same with the current Manchester United team. Same goes for Zidane.

Slot had nothing to do with the likes of Salah and Van Dijk being at Liverpool. It was just good timing for him. People still expecting a manager to come and snap his fingers and suddenly change the fortunes of this club are living in a dream world.

If you look at the success of SAF, things turned around when he started putting together a collection of the best in class in different positions. Football isn’t complicated! If Antony was playing as well as Cole Palmer has been we wouldn’t even be having this conversation.

United have made massive mistakes in the transfer market over the last 15 years and even more so recently, and we can see that the current team is suffering because of that. The question is how much of that was down to the Ten Hag and whether the management team above him can trust him in that regard going forward.

My issue with Ten Hag is that he seems to mostly focus on players that he has worked with before or who have some Dutch connection, even when they have turned out to be underwhelming. We don’t know what goes on behind the scenes and whether our scouting department is just poor, but at the end of the day a football club manager’s fate will be determined by the quality of his signings. And Ten Hag’s have been below average.

  17. So, INEOS are just to hire anybody they think is better than ETH even if they don’t fit their long-term vision? Just so we can be in this predicament in another couple of years.

It’s obvious they wanted to find a better candidate than ETH in the summer when they spoke to multiple managers. The plan was likely to let Erik have another year and then reevaluate him and any new potential candidates in the summer.

They probably didn’t expect it to go this poorly.

  18. What underpins it is the thought that ETH is a modern dynamic manager who is in the the mould of his peers, and would have resounding success elsewhere, but from what I’ve seen his approach is falling behind and becoming outdated even.

  19. We’ve gotten fewer points than Everton over nearly the last half season of games. The idea that no one can do better than that is ludicrous

  20. I dont want to bring in a long term manager thats only getting the job because he is less shit than ten hag. When people say there isnt anyone better they mean there isnt anyone significantly better that will keep us in the top 4 before we can eventually challenge under them. Tuchel isnt doing that, potter isnt, no one is doing that based on who is available right now. Unless we can pry some manager away from a job they have now there isnt someone who can significantly improve us.

  21. Who the fuck is this guy? Is he a United supporter? Confused why he’s putting his random opinion that any of us could have, out there so loudly

Why does he have a platform?

  22. I’ll take a manager with 2 trophies in 2 years in England over flash in the pan pretenders. He needs time to figure it out but we’ll be fine.
